Was going to work yesterday morning about 6.30 am and was passing through a small village. The speed limit was 50 km and i admit iwas about 10 km over the limit. Anyway next thing i saw a guard with the speed gun and i got done for speeding. Its like shooting fish in a barrell where he was instead of being out in the 100 km section where guys are overtaking and doing crazy speeds. Seems like the cops just want to go for the easy option.

For God sake, you got caught, take the bloody hit and move on! The speed limit's there for a reason!

    Listen to mr perfect.

I'm not going into a personal feud with you over it. Like I said you were caught doing over the limit. I'd say driving at 60km/hr in a village is as dangerous (or more) as driving at 110km/hr on any National Roads.

The reason he was there is to slow people down near pedestrians. It works too. You won't speed in that town again. We've all been done for speeding. Sometimes we just need to be made aware of what we're doing.

Similar happened me. Only 5-10 over the limit though. Sh1t happens. Pay up and move on. Plan on not getting caught again. I slowed down. Worked for me. Never thought to bring a complaint here though. Just a thought....

I was never disputing the fact i was 10 km over. It just seems like he was going for the easy option. Anyone who travels the old n6 into the city will see the crazy driving people do on that road on the 100km section.

Im glad they caught you. Its the 100kph+ dual carriageways that are pointless. Doing a speedcheck in a built up area where there will be pedestrians and traffic is fairly important if you ask me.

You got caught so just take it on the chin and accept it.

Having lived in a small village that was on a N road, I'm f*cking delighted. The amount of assholes that fly through the village at 80+ as if it was still part of the N road that lead in and out of it was ridiculous and dangerous.

Well im not one of those.

And if he was on the 100kph stretch there would be people on here complaining that the cops were on the safe bit and should be doing the back roads.

110kmh is dangerous on a national road? Really?

The reality is that if you break the limits, even if you think they are wrong, you are implicitly accepting the possibility of a fine. It's a fair system in that it applies to all of us. I'm no holier than thou. I've been caught. And it doesn't really matter if you're over by ten or by a ton. You got caught. Tough. Not sure what else can be said on the matter.

Times must be tough if they are having to catch people for a mere 10KM over the limit now . Most guards I know would not bother unless you were at least 15-20 over.

Have to fill the governments coffers somehow I suppose .

Of course they do. God forbid they have to do any real work. It's not about safety, it's about revenue!!

Isn't there a 10kph tolerance in all EU countries including Ireland? I never got a ticket for going 60kph in a 50 zone anywhere except this stupid country.
But yeah, pay up and shut up.

FFS will you give up on the cop cliches. Speeding in any built up area is dangerous and ten km could be the difference between life and death if you hit a ped. Why do you think they're gonna drop the limits in same areas to twenty mph in the UK? There should be zero tolerance toward speeding where people are likely to be present.

20mph? You can achieve that speed on any decent bicycle with a bit of an effort :pac:

True enough, and that would be a reasonable comparison if you could get a one ton bicycle up to 20mph...

In the whole of the stupid 30kph zone that Andrew Montague got brought in. ie. College Green, The Quays, Parnell Street

It's the percentage over the speed limit that you are.

So 60 kph in a 50kph zone is 20% over the limit.

And 130kph on a motorway with a 120kph limit is about 10% over the limit.

I was caught once, and won't get caught again.

I don't do 30 there either. When it was brought in first, the Gardaí were out with their speed guns, as there was pressure on them to do so, they seem to have stopped bothering now though.

Some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous,

The OP wanted to share his experience and feelings and is getting slated

We have all broke the speed limits at one time or another...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 871 ✭✭✭savagecabbages

If the OP is entitled to come on here and tell us all his feelings then surely people are entitled to give their own feelings towards someone complaining about being caught breaking a speed limit which he was fully aware of.

If he wants to blame the guard for catching him while he was speeding then off with him. But it wasn't the guard driving...
