Another radiator problem

    Hi all,

I did a quick search and found similar problems to mine, but not exactly the same.

I have an oil-fired central heating system with a Firebird C35 Kitchen boiler servicing 8 rads downstairs and 9 upstairs.

My problem is that 3 of the downstairs and 1 of the upstairs rads are not heating properly. They only get lukewarm at best. I have bled all the rads twice and ensured that the valves are all opened fully but still no joy.

They are normal white valves, not TRVs.

    Any ideas?

If you need any more info, let me know and I'll do my best.

Open all wheel head (big one) valves fully.
Close the lockshield(small ones) with a pliers, then open 1/4 turn.
Do the same with the thottling valve on the cylinder.
Turn on the heating, any rads that are slow to heat open the lockshield a little bit more.
Take your time and tweek the valves a little at a time to get it heating evenly

I'm presuming that the throttling valve is on the cylinder in the hot press?

Agree with aujopimur, the rads nearest the boiler or first on the circuit will be open the least with the rads furthest away almost fully open but a word of warning do not let your return pipework get too cool as it will cause corrosion within the boiler.

Yes make sure its the one on coil.
When you're balancing the system only let your boiler run for a few minutes at the tlme, if it heats up too quickly you won't get a chance to see/feel whats heating and whats not.
