    hi
in these depressing times everyone needs some motivation to think positively so we are putting together a small book of quotes.
These quotes - some are religious and some just plain motiviational but they all have the power to inspire.
just wondering if people could suggest the ones they know and that inspire them on a tough day?
any help would be appreicated as the book is for charity
    thanks!!:)

Thinking positively is often thinking like an ostrich and part of the reason little old Oireland is in such a mess is paddies "thinking positively". What he need to is to think and act bravely and realisticaly.

Anyway Light, Life and Love which is a collection of quotes from German mystics and devotional writers of the Middle Ages by Dean Inge contains a lot of gold.

Nice thread...and if it's for charity the best of luck....there are so many lovely ones...

People need loving the most when they deserve it the least.

If you live close to God, and his infinite grace, you don't have to tell it, it shows on your face.

God will find us all accountable for all the things he created for us to enjoy, but we refused to..
Restlessness and impatience change nothing except our peace and joy. Peace does not dwell in outward things, but in the heart prepared to wait trustfully and quietly on Him who has all things safely in His hands.

Life can only be understood backwards,
but it must be lived forwards.
    - I really like this one.

The best and most beautiful things in this world
cannot be seen or even heard,
but must be felt with the heart. -
this too, the author is a hero of mine, Helen Keller.

I look forward to reading more....

    what a nice thread.

Right so..a little blessing as gaeilge...an Irish blessing...

[FONT=Comic Sans MS, arial]Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl
Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d'aghaidh
Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna
Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís,
Go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú.

    Translation....

[FONT=Comic Sans MS, arial]May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields
    And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

    Begorrah...:)

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.”

    St. Thérèse de Lisieux

Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.

I am convinced that one should tell one's spiritual director if one has a great desire for Communion, for Our Lord does not come from Heaven every day to stay in a golden ciborium; He comes to find another heaven, the heaven of our soul in which He loves to dwell

I know now that true charity consists in bearing all our neighbours' defects--not being surprised at their weakness, but edified at their smallest virtues.

A few more.....op in these depressing times to think positively and turn our hearts to charity and prayer.

A few secular quotes, and indeed could be regarded as 'philosophical' from one of the great minds of our time...

'Gravitation is not responsible for people falling in love'

'Sometimes one pays most for things one gets for nothing'

'Everything should be made as simple as possible but not simpler'

'Common sense is the collection of prejudices aquired by age eighteen'

'The important thing is to not stop questioning. 'Curiosity' has it's own reason for existing'

'If 'A' is a success in life, then A equals X plus Y plus Z. Work is X, Y is play, and Z is keeping your mouth shut..

Who, couldn't love this guy...or recognise a great mind.

This one gave me comfort when a family member died last year!

"Death is not extinguishing the light; it is only putting out the lamp because the dawn has come." (Rabindranath Tagore)

"One day I sat thinking, almost in despair; a hand fell on my shoulder and a voice said reassuringly: cheer up, things could get worse. So I cheered up and, sure enough, things got worse." (James Hagerty, former White House Press Secretary)
