Im looking to get a new car, have 4-6 grand to spend.
    Im considering getting a
1.6 Civic, 2L Accord, Corolla T Sport, maybe old Octavia VRS.

Would love a Type R Civic but Insurance way too high, or an Altezza but too heavy on juice.

Any other cars I could think of, there does be great help here so hope someone can help me.

    Thanks

What about one of these, would be cheaper to buy than ur looking but with the extra money you could pay the insurance!

Certainly not in our house anyway. Some of the older models pre 2004 had some issues but haven't heard much about their newer car's. The 2.0 in that GT that bazz linked is a gem too and very reliable.

Ok Thanks, this why love boards, would of never thought of an Alfa

    Rochey,
i don't see how you're going to get a new car for €4/5k, so I think Pauls reply to your request was perfectly in order. You might have a full license and be 21, but reality hasn't set in yet.

Use the head mate, I said im looking at civic, accord. Where do you know that you can get these cars brand new for any where near 6 grand.

Clearly I was saying a new car for me but a used car just like people have suggested.

    Rochey,
i'm supposed to read your mind then. I suppose if you wrote that you wanted a 2nd hand car, i'd be expected to know you really meant a new car. Has your father got a cart at home? because if he has, he certainly doesn't need to buy an ass.

Ok Thanks, thanks for the suggestions so far. Any more?

Do not post on this thread again. Any more trolling around here and you're gone

    Personal experience :(

Sorry to hear that but "One swallow does not a summer make"
Didn't think there was much wrong with them myself but I would be extremely wary of buying a mk1 now as a lot of them seem to end up modded (badly). but I'd be happy enough if I got a good clean original one.

What exactly are you looking for from the car, Rochey18?
Looks, power, low tax, good MPG, 2 doors or more, 2 seats or more, boot space, etc...

The more we know, the more we can narrow it down for you :)

Also... still didn't get Crash Bandicoot ;)

op you should check the insurance co's with the cars on your wishlist.
anything over a 1.6 and they'll prolly roast you like a rover with a blown gasket.

What can you realistically insure? What are you willing to pay for insurance?

Plenty of gems out there, could you insure this?

Have you thought about a type-s civic either? I have an 03 one, same 2.0L k20a engine as in the type-r, but only putting out 160bhp, so cheap insurance.

In terms of Alfa, I have been soo tempted to pickup one, and some day I will have the likes of a GT in the driveway, but the whole reliably thing just scares me off. I try not to be an alfa basher, I love the styling, and how they are different to all the boring run of the mill golfs/corollas etc, but only just a few weeks ago I was looking at a GT, it had about 63kmiles on the clock, and the list of things that the owner had changed on it scared the bejezzus out of me, he was trying to make the point that all the parts changed was a good thing, I was like how can so many things go wrong with a car in such low mileage. Thats certainly not a once off, time and time again I look at a GT, think wow, ****it I'll get one, then when I go read up reviews etc, I come across horror story after horror story. Some day when I'm rich enough not to care about the depreciation and garage costs of an Alfa I'll happily own one, but for now I'll stick to the Hondas, which in my opinion are almost as good (well not styling wise, but in terms of sportiness) to alfas, but there is no comparison in terms of reliability, the likes on the Honda will be cheaper long run simple as is.

Ok I'm sure many people will disagree, but thats my opinion.

    ??????

I'm thinking it's a UK import with a reg that high for '03?
No harm with a car like that though, the VRs Octy and Furbies have a bit of a cult following over there so I'd say a well loved, well looked after car.

@Jimmy Bottlehead You still didnt get it, i got my girlfriend to post it, il find out and sort it out for you sorry about that.

Im looking for a car with decent MPG mid-high 30s, hatchback or saloon, 2 or 3 door. Around 2L would rather stay at 2L or under.

I can insure pretty much most cars expect for the imports and anything high power (3L Etc)

Would there be much of a difference in the repair costs to a BMW to a Honda Accord. This there the two cars im leaning towards. If I go for a hatchback probably Corolla T sport, hate golfs but dont know why but starting to consider them.

Would love a BMW though, but if anything went wrong and huge bills came, would turn me off them for the time being.

Im in a similar situation. Saving at the minute hoping to spend around 4000 euro.

Have been looking at e46 325i (192hp) and the 2.4 Honda Accord (189hp) I think I prefer the looks of the E46 and theres a lot more of them to choose from..

I was looking at the Volvo S40 T5 (226hp) or the S60 2.0T (180hp) aswell.. Cant make up my mind was also looking at all the VAG 1.8T models for a long time..

Got a quote from quinn of 1500 euro for the S40 T5, not bad for a > 200hp car

@Dgt Ye I can insure that Golf GTI, insurance be around €700.

    Any more suggestions?

And you can insure a vRS? I owned both, there was a tiny difference with insuring the Euro R

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,232 ✭✭✭Justin10

To be honest I didnt check the accord because of the same engine as Type R.
I went to try last night, I put in the registration of the Euro R but came up as a 16v Accord.

There was no option for a Euro R, Do I just insure it as a Vtec Accord? If so then I can insure the Vtec 2L Accord.

You're gonna have to ring your insurer about the Euro R, quite a few of them were never registered correctly when imported.

Well I'm unsure about what particular cars you'd be interested in but I'll give it a shot...

I found this Audi. Its well within your price range but is it too powerful or have too many doors?

    Too common?

    An unusual choice...

It is stunning car, But the misses would never let me drive an older car.
@dgt trying to stay around 2L for tax purposes, cant really afford more with the insurance going up.

Why not look at a accord euro-r?

That would be my preference :) But my budget is 3500 - 4000 id say and the cheapest Euro R CL7 i have seen was 6500 euro.
