Just a heads up that Access Cinema are running a Japanese film festival in Dublin this week, and Limerick, Waterford and Galway over the coming weeks (last week for Cork folk). Details here: http://www.accesscinema.ie/news/japanese-film-festival-programme-announced.html

I'm disappointed I won't be able to make the Sushi docu (hmm Sushi pr0n) / Haruhi on Saturday, but hoping to make the Sunday evening films Kabei and Chef of South Polar. Boo-urns that the very interesting sounding Colorful hasn't made it through to the Dublin leg.

I can unreservedly recommend the musical Memories of Matsuko and the quirky Sawako Decides for anyone who hasn't seen them - neither is perfect, but they're both offbeat and stylistically inventive takes on well-worn genres and tropes. Villain is unremarkable but worth a watch.

It's a shame I would have went to a couple of these movies but I had no idea the festival was even on until yesterday evening. It didn't even say anything on the Screen Cinema website!

We missed last year's as we'd subscribed to the festival's Facebook page and they never bothered to update it. Better off intermittently checking the Access Japan website itself, how we scoped it this year. They spend so much of the bloody thing handing you feedback forms and rating cards, and then they barely bother to advertise the thing in advance. Nonsensical.

Hmm, I actually forget how I first heard about it - probably some facebook page - but I did see quite a few leaflets around the place. Granted I do go to college in Filmbase so that might have something to do with it :P

    That'd do it, alright.

I watched quite a few Japanese movies recently. This is why I saw two films in the same week where the protagonist masturbated secretly while looking at a girl being put in the role of a victim :/
