    Hi.
Just looking for some information on the above.I was recently put on a 3 day week and have been getting my JSB for the last few weeks. It normally comes on Tues but for the week 20-26th Oct,i didn't receive a cheque.

I thought it might be because i was too late putting in my slip that week and expected 2 cheques to come this Tuesday. However, only 1 arrived which was for the week 27-2nd Nov.
This is the way my week looked for the one that didn't come

Th Fr Sa Su Mo Tu We
    20 21 22 23 24 25 26
OFF ON ON ON ON ON OFF

I went to my local office today and the assistant there said i didn't receive payment because i worked 4 days that week. My understanding was that i receive 1/6 of the total weekly payment for every day i didn't work between Thursday and the following Wednesday of each week.

This was just the way my days fell in this period and i am just wondering is that the way it works?

As you were working 4 days in one week, and 2 days in the other, then you won't get paid at all for the week where you were working 4 days, and you'll get 4/6 of a payment for the week you worked 2 days. That's just the way that Jobseekers Benefit works.

Its obviously better for you if you can keep your three days to within the one Jobseekers week, so that you don't lose out on a week's payment.

If this is unavoidable you could apply for a Supplementary Welfare Allowance payment for the week that you don't get a JB payment for as long as you aren't working more than 30 hours in that week. This would be fully means tested, so it will only bring your income up to the level of the SWA rate and every euro you earn that week will be deducted from your payment, and any income that any partner or spouse has will also be deducted. The bottom line is that by applying for SWA you will be left with the SWA rate for a person in your circumstances (186 euro a week for a single person, plus 124.80 for a partner/spouse and 29.80 for each child).

While for Jobseekers you are considered to be fully employed once you work 4 days in a week, for SWA you're not fully employed until you are working 30 hours or more.

Thanks for the reply Lugh.I worked 3 days in the week Mon 17th Oct. -Sun 23rd Oct(Tue,Fri and Sat) and 3 days the week Mon 24th-Sun 30 Oct(Mon,Tue and Thurs).
So even if my working week runs Monday to Sunday, the social welfare run their week from Thursday to Wednesday and if i work 4 days in their calender week,im entitled to nothing for the other 2.

Unfortunately that's correct. The JB week is Thursday to Wednesday. Interestingly, the the Jobseekers Allowance week is Wednesday to Tuesday!!! How people are supposed to know these things is beyond me.

As stated above, you could try for a Supplementary Welfare Allowance payment for the week that you don't have an entitlement to Jobseekers Benefit, but it may be too late for that at this stage.

The only positive (if you can call it that) is that you will not have exhausted any days of your Benefit for the week that you didn't get a payment, so your Jobseekers Benefit will last a couple more days than it would have otherwise.
