If you can get an 091 phone number you can get a decent speed from various providers, If 093, probably not. Having said that, i think most of the area heading towards Turloughmore is 091, Turloughmore exchange, which has pretty decent broadband.

I live in Laraghmore, have 3g mobile broadband stick but it doesn't work here at all.
Yes its all 091 numbers here if that helps any. We have Eircom broadband and have never had a problem with it, but saying that, its pretty dear imo. Id be interested in finding out about better deals available in the area too.

Best Broadband service is Laraghmore is Airwire.

It is Wireless BB with a base Station on Knockroe Hill, if you can see the mast on that hill you are sorted as it is pretty much LOS

    http://www.airwire.ie/

I have been with them for 3/4 years and the service levels have been very good

Best feature is no download CAP :-)

OMG that is very expensive. I am currently with UPC in Galway and pay 50 per month for Digital TV and Recorder box plus 12MB bandwidth.

All new wires where i live, little over half mile from exchange, no complaints.Using eircom 7 MB package. Getting average 6.5 on tests.

Any update on this from people in laraghmore/turloughmore regions? Also what are pings/speeds like? Whats it like for gaming/latency?

    Bump.

Thinking of perhaps moving this way (have 50Mb UPC at mo). I see the exchange is rated for 8Mb but is there sufficient backhaul to see this? Anyone know of any plans to upgrade this exchange?

I am living in Laraghmore and I have asked Eircom umpteen times about possible upgrading of exchange and as usual, they have no plans...:(

Lightnet told me recently that they cover this area but I don't know anyone that has had it installed around here....

What are current speeds there on DSL?

In Laraghmore, you will get between 0.5 and 2.0 meg (If you're lucky). Mine is 1.0 meg :(

Looking into getting broadband probably with Airwire.
Are you still with them and happy with the service?

Hi darabbit, who did you end up getting for broadband? I have just moved to the area and looking to get Airwire.

I currently have eMobile. It has it's good days and bad days. Overall it is pretty rubbish. I got hit for two whopper bills for exceeding the 10 gb allowance.

I tried to get air wire but a shed is blocking line of sight to mast. They couldn't even get a signal.

I got eircom phone line installed two years ago only to find out after that we couldn't get bb on the line!!

It is extremely frustrating that we can't get Decent BB. The government have announced some funding for rural BB improvement but I think that will only stretch to improving bigger villages and towns rather than remote locations.
