One is probably just chancing their luck. Maybe our resident Russian watch expert can give you a better answer.

has dealt with the cheaper seller before without problems, so nothing dodgy there.

I also have the very same watch (bought from Meranom who is a sort of semi-official Vostok seller) and had some issues with it.

Shortly after it arrived, the rotor bearing disintegrated and I had lose ball bearings rolling around inside the watch. I duly sent it back to have it repaired ...that worked well but took ages (postage alone is 3 weeks one way).

The watch was also running very fast ex works, but even though I asked them to fix this as well while it was being repaired, they never did.

Since then I have a bit more confidence about opening a watch and have regulated it myself to very acceptable levels.

I'd also have a spare rotor with bearing from a different watch lying about should you decide to buy this watch anyway and have the same problem as I did ...which I hope you won't ...but just in case :D

'tis a nice little watch all the same.

Thanks a million for the input.

Unfortunately, i must admit i've now slightly 'gone off' it. It's my own fault really, i'm useless when it comes to returning faulty goods and if there was problems with the one i order i would just wind up with a 100yoyos worth of watch shaped waste of space in my bedside locker and an annoyed mrs d for wasting the money.

While i love the look of russian/soviet watches and would like to add one or two to my meagre collection, the thought of wasting money on one that could be problematic, makes me think twice when it comes to hitting that 'buy it now' button. Especially as i have a tight budget and a wife who cant understand my fascination with watches to satisfy:o:o

I totally understand your reasoning, I would have said the same myself a few months ago.

But after you've openend your first watch yourself, tightening a rotor screw or fitting a (cheap) replacement rotor with new bearing really is a simple task and hardly worth shipping back the watch.

I'm wearing mine as I write and it is currently on +0/- 5 seconds a day ...and still looking good for a total outlay of 120 Euro.

On the other hand ...if you buy a nice Seiko or Citizen you probably won't have to open that one :D
