    Hello racing fans,

We have a real treat in store for the next meeting of the Dublin Racing Club.

The Senior National Hunt handicapper, Noel O'Brien, will be giving a talk on all things handicapping related including his views on the established hero's and rising stars of Irish and UK racing. Noel is widely regarded as one of the most (if not the most) knowledgeable men in Ireland when it comes to NH racing form. Johnny Ward (Irish Racing Post), one of Ireland's top tipsters, will also feature in what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable night.

The meeting will take place at 7.30pm in the downstairs bar of Peadar Kearney's pub, Dame Street on November 24th. PK's is located a few doors from the Olympia, on the Central Bank side of the street.

For those of you who missed the last meeting; the idea of the club is to have fun, meet like minded racing people, and learn something along the way. Membership is free and all are welcome.

The full agenda on the night is:

7.30pm (sharp!) - Discussion and Q&A with Noel O'Brien, Senior Handicapper, Turf Club
(please feel free to send any questions for Noel in advance of the meeting by email)

    8.15pm Panel discussion
Focus on the weekend's big racing including the Hennessy at Newbury and the Fighting Fifth. We will also discuss upcoming Irish racing at Fairyhouse, the Tingle Creek, up and coming jockeys (e.g. Maurice Linehan) and the latest on the whip debacle. The panel will feature:

    - Noel O'Brien, Senior Handicapper, Turf Club
    - Johnny Ward, Irish Racing Post and the Weekender
    - (final guest tbc)

We will have some spot prizes to be won and there will be free finger food on the night. I'm also assured there will be some cheap drink for those of you that way inclined!

We'll look forward to seeing you there and please let us know if you have any questions, suggestions or ideas. Alternatively you can contact dublinracingclub@gmail.com

    All the best,

    Gobbie

I didn't make the first one but will make sure I'm at the next. Sounds like a good night.

I'm delighted to confirm the third panelist will be Mandy Lucas. Mandy is a horse racing odds compiler with Ladbrokes and is extremely knowledgeable on UK and Irish form.

I'm also delighted to confirm we will have some prizes on the night including tickets for Leopardstown's xmas meeting. Not sure how we will allocate them yet. Suggestions welcome.

This is shaping up to be a terrific night so hopefully we'll see a lot of you there.

This sounds excellent, I will definitely try hard to come along.

As its free entry, who'se funding it? Is it a HRI gig?

We haven't really had any expenses yet as venues and guests have all been provided for free in the interests of racing. Everyone has been very kind with their time and enthusiastic and the response from the industry has been terrific.

The organisers are myself and two other lads. I work in racing and the two others in finance and we're doing it as a hobby.

Boyles very kindly gave us a few bob at the end of the first night and we've been offered some donations by others, all in the name of good will. We might look at sponsored evenings to cover expenses in future as it would be nice to keep the club free. But we'll see how it goes. Hopefully see you on the night.
