Usually you should have a decision by 3 months.

Have you been following it up? Have you called to see what was happening at different stages?

This type of this is, unfortunately, all to common throughout the country. The so called max time of 3 months doesn't exist in practice.

Under the new laws, I thought if you didn't have it after 3 months. Thats that, you ain't getting it.

In theory, yes. But in practice it varies dramatically.

Is it three months fromt he time you give it into the station? Or, is it three months from the time the FO gets it on their desk? Or, is it three months from the time the FO gives it to the Super after checking all the relevant information, inputing it into pulse, and following up on any queries; checking gunsafes, extra documentation, proof of competency?

It seems that many Supers read that particular guideline as meaning they have 3 months to make a decision from the time they get the application themselves, not from the time it enters the station.

It sucks, but patience, manners and research before you give in the application all play in your favour.

I remember a friend of mine up that way telling me that lads used have awful trouble getting a license for their 1st rifle! I personally wouldnt have left it that long without checking up on the application! Keep following up on it (be polite) until they finally get sick of you calling in and process it! Maybe not the way it should be done but it seems to be the only way that works in certain areas! . . . . lost applications/ he's not working today / call back next week / holidays etc

For future reference, all you need is the grant letter and a receipt to show you've paid to collect a firearm ;)

He didnt get a grant letter

It's the letter you get saying you've been granted a license. The one you must bring to the post office and pay in order to get your license.

Better to email the station then to ring. The written response is handy to have and it's better at quickening things up the a phone call.
