Ok so I have a laser card which is generallh accepted on most stores online but there are some who don't accept it. I want to get some sort of visa debir card that i can just top up with money whenever i want to purchase something online as i previously had a credit card and don't want one again!

Could anyone recommend the best card to go with? Visa debit, 3v, o2 money....any other options? Which is the best all round i.e. the lesser amount of fees

3V is dead, forget it. Visa debit is probably the best all round, though you'll need to be with a bank that offers them. Pretty soon all banks will, but not yet.

Pre pay credit cards have differing fees, and you'll probably need to check them out yourself, as the fees often depend on your particular usage. For occasional use, go with whatever's the handiest to get.

I recommend Moneybookers prepaid Mastercard. You can top it up online using your laser card for free. It costs €10 a year and there are no fees for using it .

See more about it here http://best-buy-ireland.com/shop/category/prepaid-mastercard/

Permanent TSB and Ulster Bank are currently using Visa Debit.
Bank of Ireland and AIB will follow at some stage in the next while, although Bank of Ireland re-issued my Laser Card recently which was a little surprising, given they've announced Visa Debit's on its way.

I find Neteller quite good, but then again my bank (BOI) has already started offering Visa Debit..

How do you know this? I've just talked to two people, one in a branch in Cork City and one through their central phone system and they both said it would be January before they're available.

If this really is the case I'd be quite tempted to close my account with them, especially as the girl on the phone call tried to get me to sign up to their laser and credit cards.

Just regarding PTSB's Visa Debit, they charge you for using it outside Ireland. Just bear that in mind when making your decision.

The O2 money card appears to be the best option for prepay.

Aye, I was reading about that. Any transactions outside of the EU and/or any transactions not in Euros. Still, I'd put up with it. But if BOI were blatantly lying to me, I'd be incredibly angry.

Edit: And my big purchases are books and the like through Amazon.co.uk. So if needs be I'd just switch to shopireland.ie (Amazon UK's Irish system, they don't have absolutely everything available but a lot of stuff is.)

How do you work that out ? No free top up option and €4.99 to buy it ?/

    Mooneybookers is very handy,

I have one because I'm with NIB and there Laser is almost useless online,
Mooneybookers is very good once you do the application which ok but you have to sendthem or email them a ESB bill and drivers license or similar which is a pain and nearly put me off signing with them, but it is worth it because its hassle fee from then on.

    O2 money card FTW

Can top it up in most shops
    top up charges are <€99 - .99c
    >€100 - €1.99

Never had a problem using it anywhere online

I am happy with 02 card. fee to top up is saved many times over and it is great that if you have 87 cents left it is carried over on top up not like 3v.

So I signed up with MoneyBookers, very simple & straight forward procedure, they sent me out a verification letter to verify my address and just had to enter the 6 digit code they gave.

But I have a problem. How exactly do I start shopping online now? They give a list of shops, but none of them I use. When I select an item I want to buy online, what option do I select to pay with? I'm very confused!

Did you not get a card ( A Mastercard) . Sounds like you might just have opened a Moneybookers Account. To get a card you have to apply for it.
