How to get engineer's report long after accident?

    Hi,
I was in a fairly minor collision a year ago which is now being debated in court. My solicitor keeps mentioning an engineer's report, which she is hoping to get based on the photos of damages to both cars. She seemed quite troubled by the fact that I had traded my car in a few months ago- but the car had been repaired anyway so there was no damage to it anymore!

What will this report involve and what will it be based on? I want to provide as much info as I can- this claim is going to be the death of me if it goes on much longer!
    Thanks!

Was the vehicle assessed pre repair by an assessor/engineer?

It was looked at by claims handlers for both parties, they took photos and that, but apparently they don't count as engineer reports?
