You know this is an automated thing right?

There's definitely a MUCH MUCH more annoying habit people have about the end of their emails. Some people even do it on their posts on message boards.......... but i can't quite remember what it is.

You think that people are that pretentious that they would deliberately type that they sent you an email from their iPad etc?

    Jeez!

Not when the phone has all the latest sh*te dance hits loaded onto it and it's in the possession of a 14 year old sitting on the bus!

It's on by standard for Apple and others. The reason the droids don't is because there are so many email and messaging apps on them. Droid users generally don't care.

Welcome to After Hours, there are plenty of other forums more suitable for this thread if you want "serious" answers.

I find that there are more smartarses per square meter in the "specialist" forums than in After Hours.

The difference between the smartasses here is that they are usually just taking the mick.

There is, but then no one knows you're using an iPhone..

It was a fairly clever marketing trick by Apple etc.

In practical terms, it's kinda handy to let the person you're replying to know that you're mailing from a mobile device, because that way they shouldn't expect speedy or detailed replies, or for you to be able to use Skype, send large attachments etc.

Yep, it's on by default, but there is an option to set the message to what ever you want or leave it blank. Mine is blank, just in case you were wondering if I owned an iPhone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,731 ✭✭✭GreenWolfe

I got stung by default settings on my own phone twice. The built in app has "Sent from my Nokia" as an enabled signature. The Gmail app has a default setting "Append 'Sent from my mobile device' as a signature" enabled too.

It's almost cute isn't it? A Nokia sending email.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 287 ✭✭JohnnyTodd

I leave the sent from iPhone signature on because it lets my collegues, customers, boss etc know I'm travelling.

That way I don't care about grammar and can be short in reply.

Does this make me a wanker?

On the Apple devices, it's a default setting, which you can change. (Settings –> Mail, Contacts, Calendar –> Signature). You can even make it fancier, with the instructions here.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Mine changed from Sent from my iphone to Kind regards as soon as i got the thing.

However, when I'm pretending that I can't do that particular job cause I'm out and about at the moment and not back in the office (bedroom in my case), I revert back to "sent from my iphone"

So when it says someone has 'checked in' somewhere, does that mean they actually went to their phone to say where they are or does it have some sort of feckin satellite?

theres a few young ones on facebook where there page is clogged up with 'so and so has checked in at home/at *insert bar name here*/ at *friends house*. i dont get it. does this happen automatically? why oh why would you go to your phone to 'check in' somewhere?

They want to appear like they're deadly when they're not.

No one cares that you send it over your phone/ipad/microwave - just send the message.

But yeah, the "Sent from my <mobile device>" thing is actually quite useful, especially for work. It says "I'm acknowledging your email but I'm away from my desk at the moment so don't expect anything to be done about it right away".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭Carroller16

What's more annoying is people who have the ''please consider the environment before printing this email" logo at the bottom. This has caused me to print out a second page with just that logo on it plenty of times.

About 2 months before the iPad came out, I started adding "Sent from my iPad" to the end of emails/texts to people I knew were Apple fanboys. I almost managed to convince one of them that I was a beta tester for the iPad, but my hatred of Apple products is too well known unfortunately.

I disabled this in the Mail settings. I want to send e-mail, not brag that I have an iPhone.
