Meant4More - Mens Conference - Nov 13th 2011

Visit a typical Catholic Parish in Ireland, and one will find that on average over two thirds of the congregation are women. Why are there so few men actively participating in the life of the church?

In a major recession, with rising unemployment (300,000 men on live register), the growth of debt, and suicide four times more common among Irish men, does the Gospel offer men hope, in the midst of challenging times?

Meant4More is a one day conference which is seeking to bring men together from across Ireland to look afresh at their Christian faith, and in particular to challenge them to respond to the call to follow Christ. The conference is an initial "testing of the waters", to offer a model of bringing men together to celebrate their faith, receive inspiring teaching, and be offered a variety of resources to assist them as this time.

Not sure if this is what you meant for the thread, but men across Western society and across religious upbringing are more likely to be non-religious or atheists.

Well I have a few reasons but I'm not sure how well they would go down on this forum and I don't want to be accused of high jacking the thread (I'm an atheist btw) :P

It would be interesting but this mightn't be the best forum for it.

For example, coming from a godless background, I think that the question (and answer) would be similar to "why do women show more interest in horoscopes than men do?".

Mmm not sure about that now. Judging from Zombrex's previous posts I think she might have something more developed than that to expound on :)

Especially when there is evidence to support these ideas. Here's one small study.

Were you trying to suggest that this wasn't true?
Did you have a point at all?

Of Course its nonsense!!. Just because some men don't express their religious beliefs in the same way as women do does not mean they are not religious. My brothers stopped going to mass when they left home, but if you put the question to them are they Catholics or do they believe in God they say yes, now when they have their own families they go to mass. The reality is Men are different to Women in many many ways, Society wants to make us equal, which is good in some aspects, but the reality is men are different is many aspects.

Also the study is about college students.
