I'd go into 3FE everyday if I could but it costs to park etc and I don't work in town so there was a thread for best coffee shops in Dublin how about ones in the surrounding areas like say Dublin 15? Best I've had around here is a cafe beside tesco in roselawn. Can't think of the name of it though.

Nothing to add to this other than to say I'm in exactly the same situation as you - i.e. love 3fe and live around the D.15 area. Would love if a good place opened up (I don't think there is one though..)

The whole artisan-coffee movement is only starting in Ireland though - I reckon it will move beyond the city centre soon enough. I reckon there'd be a great market for one around the Blanch Centre.

Cafe Du Journal in Monkstown serve an excellent coffee plus hasbean created and roast their blend. Can't comment on the food other than saying it looks great.

I agree that Blanchardstown needs a decent non franchise branded coffee shop/cafe.

Never again will I set foot inside the door of Amber Cafe on Blanch main street. Twice I've been there and twice I've encountered obnoxious staff members. I thought I was just unlucky the first time with a cranky and unfriendly waitress with an attitude problem but encountered it again today from a different waitress who was curt and 'in a mood' ..banging cutlery agressively as she was cleaning tables and snarled at me when I was ordering. Ruined the whole experience. Never again!!!!!!

And on another note, Ann's Bakery/Restaurant on Henry Street here in Dublin is another place I won't darken the door of either again. A chicken 'fillet' with more bones in it than than an unfilleted fish, hard roast potatoes, small portions and my pet hate....having to 'pay' extra for a sachet of butter. When I'm paying 9.95 euros for a hot meal the least I would expect is free butter!!!!

Went into Charlie's on Westmoreland Street the other day. The smell of grease the minute I walked through the door...the dirt and bad decor and the trip to the down stairs toilet facilities...never again....the food was decent though, but again never again. The Charlies on the way into Rathmines from Wexford Street is lovely though in terms of food and decor, so I felt cheated by the experience in Westmoreland Street.

And another thing, I notice that Starbucks on Westmoreland Street have not reduced their VAT rates to 9%..still the old rate showing on the receipt.

Top marks to the restaurant in Dunnes on Henry Street though. Had a lovely Mediterranean chicken dish there. Nice surrounding, good food at a good temperature and efficient friendly staff.
