Hi my sister in Dundee wants me to book my flight for the Xmas, but I dont know the dates for signing before and after Xmas. My next sign on date is the 28th November, will the next one be the 19th or something like that, I dont even know if the dates are published yet on the SWA website. Im in Galway city. I think last year you could find out at the Post Office, so hopefully its the same with this, this year. I also need to know when it would be in early January to sign on after the holidays.

Edit: Have just checked the SWA website but it only lists the 2010 Xmas arrangement times, when do they normally release it for each year.

It shouldn't matter when they are. If you are away from your locality, call into your local office, and tell them you are going away a couple of weeks in advance. They will suspend your payment while you are gone so you don't miss out, and when you are back then release all the money to you.

Just to be clear here I receive my payment from the PO every Tuesday, so its my understanding that if I receive my payment on 19th or 20th which falls on a Tuesday is that usually the double payment day for Xmas, if this is the case that means my next payment day should be the 3rd January. Hopefully someone can confirm this.

Thanks for feedback the problem there is they didnt release the dates of Xmas till the 17th Dec last year, so that offers very little time to make holiday arrangements. The reason Im asking is that half my family are based in Scotland and I normally go over for that period, I also done my journalism degree in Scotland through BTEA over the last four years so the bond with the brother and sister there has got stronger and is kinda harder to wrangle out of.

You can take 2 weeks holiday a year from the dole. You need to go to the local welfare office with the dates your going come and coming back.
You need to do this in the next 2 weeks.
They will stop the payment from the date you go on holidays until you go back to welfare office but you will get a lump sum of money when you come back.

You're trying to find out what payment arrangements the Social Welfare will put in place for Post Offices over the Christmas period and the only answer is that nobody knows. They won't release that info until closer to Christmas and when it comes it'll be so complicated that we'll be well into the New Year before the nuances can be worked out! I understand that you need to book tickets to go visit your folks. The reality is that you are not supposed to go out of the country when on a SW payment as you are supposed to be available and looking for work. Follow cee_jay's advice at post No. 2 above. That way, maybe you can borrow the money if needs be and you'll know the money will be released to you a while after you get back.
