First Claim For Tax Repayment During Unemployment

Hi, I have a question. I was a PAYE employee until I lost my job in September. I applied for and am currently receiving Jobseekers Benefit. I paid a good deal of tax in 2011 and would like to apply to claim a repayment now that I am unemployed. I was wondering can I fill out form P50 now (First Claim For Tax Repayment During Unemployment) and claim back some tax and then make another claim in the new year for whatever tax I am owed that's left over? (i.e. between this claim and the year end)

Any information/advice would be very much appreciated :)

You can apply now no problem. Generally, it's advised you wait 4 weeks after becoming unemployed (8 if in receipt of a welfare payment), before you send in the p50.

As it was Sept. when you finished up, your well over the 4 weeks at least. :D

You are generally due the value of your monthly tax credit as a monthly refund .
Your 1st month refund would be something like this :( depending on tax credits / circumstances etc )
    • October Tax Credit - 275.00e ( 3300.00 / 12
    • less Welfare Benefit TC- 162.93e ( 9776.00/12 x 20% )
    • Plus W-Benefit non-taxable - 56.00e ( first 13e weekly )
    • Cheque from Revenue - 168.07e
