discounted holidays

just came across a discounted holiday deal which is a give away price really, its 7 nights in Lanzarote for just over €100 for 2 adults and 2 kids, now in the fine print it says that on one day we have to attend a hospitality tour explaining services, products and facilities within the resort, although it says there is no obligation to purchase anything but refusal to attend results in being charged in full for accommodation...

so has anyone went on one of these holidays? it really does sound to good to be true, but if its only a day listening to sales men trying to sell ya time shares etc is it still worth it?

I wouldnt be there to buy any products just get the cheap holiday but at the same time dont want to be hounded everyday in the hotel by these pushy sales people.

A link to the promotion or even mentioning the name of the travel agent/company would be nice.

Id say he is talking about this:

    http://www.groupon.ie/deals/getaways/trojans-holidays/1380254?CID=IE_AFF_166_10_1_1&utm_source=aff_166&utm_medium=aff_10&utm_campaign=aff_1&utm_content=aff_1

It was discussed in another thread last week, there have been a couple of similar ones recently. It doesnt include flights.

I'm with Pokering on this one!

Try reading the link he posted before commenting.

The time share was relating to the hospitality tour that you must attend whilst on your holiday. Read the fine print section!

thats exactly the one...yeah i seen it dosent include flights and read the small print about having to sit through some presentation, its ok if ya just have to sit there and listen but if you are hounded and chased the whole week by the sales people wont be much of a holiday really!

Guys, as mentioned in another thread, check out www.gohop.ie for some real bargains. Go to the late sun deals tab and there is a lot to the algarve for less than €100, flights and hotel! Most of thr canaries holidays are about €200ish. These holidays are for december/january time.

Be careful with those "Guests are required to attend hospitality tour explaining services, products and facilities within resort; no obligation to purchase but refusal to attend results in being charged in full for accommodation. Original value based on hotel rack rate. "

What they do is they try to aggressive sell you timesharing / direct vacation packages or something overpriced and useless else. They are highly motivated and trained people who are good in cracking even the best potential buyer.

Steer clear of scum like this; there is nothing such as free in the world. If you pay 100 EUR for a room worth about 300 EUR where do you expect they make their money?

    Funny enough

Today's one seems a bit better! Linky

7 Nights in Antigua for 2 Adults and up to 2 kids for €148.34.

Obviously flights aren't included, but I can't see anything written about presentations and the like.

    its all there ..

the very small print hidden in the rest of the T&C

Guests are required to take hospitality tour explaining services, products and facilities within resort, with no obligation to purchase but failure to attend will result in being charged in full for accommodation. Original value based on 1 bedroom rate for 2 adults and up to 2 children. Excludes flights and transfers.

    Balls anyway!

Can't see how they can charge you the full price. You're paying the €150 upfront. They can't just charge you the extra without your consent.

I am dying to see how people get on with these highly reduced places, seems same company behind them groupon, for some reason i can see them being nightmares but hopefully not as some of the prices are excellent!

Been to one of these before...they are very persuasive. Best thing is to leave your credit card or any other form of payment in your room; that way you can relax knowing you have no way of being bounced into something.

You probably have to accept the T&Cs before paying, which then allows them enforce the presentations clause.

If they getting really dirty there are ways and once you are there you're trapped.

I heard about examples where they told you only a day where it might be so you have to stay close the whole day and wait for them to pick you up. if you are not there for the pickup they consider as not attended and change you the full package price.

And dotn think they cant get the money since when you checkin you have usualyl even if its payed leave your creditcard for "expenses".

I see a good few of these holidays up now. What exactly is timeshare? never heard of it...? I have been on holidays where you have to attend a meeting with a rep; it's not so bad - usually lasts 45mins max

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭madhatter76

Really depends on the conditions and who runs it.

If the main catch is to get people cheap to somewhere and them hammer them to get the money for the "lure" back then you can expect its more than just 45 minutes soft nice sweet talking.

If you get a hotel room for one week for 100 instead of 350 the diff must come back somewhere somehow.

Timeshare is for example that they "offer" you to buy for a few grand a part of an apartment or hotel with the right to stay for a week or 2 per year. additional you have to pay every year a maintenance fee for the rest of your life.
    http : // meech741.hubpages.com/hub/Timeshare-Beware-A-warning-about-timeshare-salesmen

Another thing I got engaged with once (on a open street tried to get lured by a 50 EUR voucher for a trip) was to buy "direct vacation" which means you pay upfront 2 grand or so for the right to have 2 (or 3 or 4) weeks of stay in a particular hotel to be taken within the next 2 years.

Now this one sounds not that bad but why do you then get pressure to make the decision immediately on the spot without any T&Cs or else anything written?

    Well maybe because of:
Since I knew that hotel and the price I asked what is the benefit to pay for 2 weeks stay more than for a 2 weeks trip including flight to that hotel in question.

Geez I admit it was a bit loud so every other victim could hear me in the room and they gave me the voucher and made sure that I quickly get out of the room to not make others aware of the ripoff. .. :-)

I meant a 45mins talk on the local facilities, amenities, customs, traditions, exchange rates, tours on offer, etc. by a Thomas Cook Rep. Not to actually invest in the hotel.

What's so bad? All you say is you don't have that kind of money and are here for a relaxing holiday?
