Hi, My own car (99 A140) died suddenly on Wednesday so im looking to replace with less than 2k to spend. Been trawling the web last few days and came across this earlier on.. 04D Kia Rio. Got my dad to ring and have arranged to view on Tuesday - girl seemed genuine on the phone...
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2684350?cid=2684350&

HOWEVER!! ive since read Limerick Mans guide on buying a second hand car (thanks for great advice btw) and checked the motortax.ie website where it turns out its a dealer?
    Change Of Vehicle Ownership
    Purchased by a Dealer on : 29/09/2011
    Notified on : 18/10/2011

Advice.. would you smell a rat and run a mile, or is this common enough and im just being over cautious?
    Thanks!

if you like the car i wouldn't run just yet but certainly raise an eyebrow. if your seriously considering it, spend 30 quid on a motorcheck report on it and get a mechanic to have a look at it before you commit to anything.

Is it a dealer trying to pass as a private seller?
    If so, it seems dodgy.
Not that I know for sure but I would guess that there's something a bit off with the car so the dealer's selling as a private seller so the buyer has no come back.
    Could be completely off.

The words '' genuine reason for selling '' IMO strongly suggest a private seller ( or dealer pretending to be a private seller ).

Why not go and check it out and ask her how come it was recently changed ownership to a dealer?

I did a search of the tel # within donedeal and nothing comes back (as it may if that # is used a lot)
The ad wording is a bit 'dealer speak' but having said that she may know a dealer that said they would try to shift it and she went her own way too.

Check the car out by all means (pref with someone that's up to speed) and be willing to walk away if its fishy.

I can't find it on any other popular car sites either.

thanks.. I think ill give it the benefit of the doubt & check it out on tuesday.
Ill ask her about the dealer thing & hopefully will have an explanation ?
Unless dealer had it but couldn't shift it, so she decided to stick it on done deal 3 days ago to see if any interest..
ps: if anyone spots a good deal for under 2k let me know, im gone goggle-eyed looking at cars lol

Advert aside surely €2k will get you something better than a Kia Rio of that vintage?

    For example:
