Can't access my FB acct

I've only had an FB acct for a few months, and originally set up the 'login approvals' option because someone tried to hack my acct the first week I was on. This means that every time I delete cookies on my laptop, I have to go through a procedure where FB have to send me an access code via my mobile so that I can log into my acct. Because of the hacking attempt, I didn't mind the minor annoyance this caused.

Anyway, last night when I logged in they alerted me again that someone had tried to hack my acct. Then later, I deleted cookies because my laptop was slow but when I tried to get on FB it didn't recognize my laptop and advised it was sending me an access code via my mobile. I never recieved the code, even though I asked them to resend it several times. I've had problems with my mobile so I then called my service provider, in case that was my problem, to reset my mobile and they did, they even did a text message test which I recieved, but still no luck with FB.

Has anyone else had this issue and how did you sort it out? I've read some stories online where ppl had to create new accts and couldn't even deactivate the one they couldn't get access to. I really don't want to start all over again, so any advice would be appreciated.

This problem sounds like it's unique to you and your individual set up.

I'm not aware that FB doing anything when somebody tries to hack your account only when you are actually hacked. I suspect that somebody somewhere is trying to hack everybody's account.

Neither am I sure that cookies have anything to do with it. I use FB from time to time on different machines. It's only when I go abroad that it requests verification.

Why delete cookies? If your laptop is slow when not put limits on what's downloaded through your browser setting?

Perhaps you are better off without login approvals and using a strong password?

I always have to use verification when I switch computers even in the same house but as I usually just use my laptop, this was never a problem. I was advised to use login approvals after the first hack attempt so I erred on the side of caution and set it up. If I'd known it was going to be such a problem, I would have opted out.

I'm not tech savvy, and neither is my husband so we rely on well-meaning friends and techblogs for our info....

If I get myself out of this mess then I will definitely be dropping it, and I do have a strong password but I'll be changing it to something invincible!

Thanks for your input Brian, I'm waiting to hear back from FB (again) but they haven't been helpful so far. I'm just going around in circles with them.

ETA: when I try to log in this is the message I get: 'Sorry, we don''t recognize the computer or device you're using. Please check your text messages at xxx xxxx xxxx and enter the security code below.' BUT I never receive the access code on my mobile, so I can't log in....

I wouldn't hold out for a quick response from FB. You might be better Googling it.

There is a solution: FB wont answer, your cell phone carrier would blame FB, so no solution provided from them either...but...

    1) create another account in FB

    2) dont bother to put much information, just go to settings, and add the same mobile phone number you've entered in the original account (the on you want to recover). You've gotta verify your mobile by a code FB would send to you. When you receive the code, you enter it, it probably wont work, but you return automaticaly to the page where you register your mobile. Theres a blank place there to put the code received, and there It would work!, you gotta see your registered mobile.

    3) Now, as you registered the same mobile number you had in original FB account in this new account, it would be erased from the original, it cant be repeated.

    4) Go now to facebook help and send the same form in which is stated "I cant access my account because I dont receive the verification code", fill the form, and you will be redirected to FB login page, not the usual one. You enter your username and password and voilá!! you have recovered your account!! and now just disable that ****ty security option (if yet enabled) and dont use it again.

    5) unregister your mobile number from the new FB account you have created, so you can use it again for notifications in the original account.

HOPE THIS HELP TO EVERYONE THAT RECEIVES THIS MESSAGE: "Are you using a new browser? Because you have turned on Login Approvals, you will be asked to enter a security code when you login from a new browser (even if you have used another browser on your computer).
Sorry, we don't recognize the computer or device you're using. Please check your text messages at XXXXXXXXXXXX and enter the security code below."

GOOD LUCK!! IT WORKED FOR ME
