Anyone bought one through Meteor/emobile or CPW ? If so was it locked or unlocked ? Considering getting one as an upgrade for someone on O2 and the latest CPW mag lists it at 100 on Meteor/emobile (as both do on their own sites) or 130 on O2 - although it's not listed directly on O2's own site ? Naturally I'd prefer to get it for the lower price.

Alternatively any recs on an alternative for the same money (-> 100). CPW also listing the SE x10 Mini Pro on O2 for 100 so right now that's looking the best of the rest (if only it had a newer official android release - 2.1 seems to be latest and don't want to mess with roms on a phone I won't have direct access to ongoing)

Grand little phone. Internal memory is brutal though.

Has anyone played Angry Birds or something similar on this phone?
My son is looking for an android phone for christmas and he says when he plays Angry Birds on his friends Galaxy Mini that it is slow, would it be similar on this phone?
I'd like to get him something that would be happy with but I have no intention of getting the Galaxy S Plus like he is looking for.

The processor is faster on Galaxy Y so it should be faster (830MHz on the Y Vs 600MHz on the Mini). Based on that it should run games better. Bear in mind though, the screen is also slightly smaller than the mini too, at only 3 inches. Getting a phone with a lot of gaming in mind, and getting a 3" screen doesnt click, Have you considered the Galaxy ACE? 3.5" screen on that and can be got for about 200€ sim free. Would be well able to run games like angry birds smoothly too.

Other than that the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is very well worth a look, proper gaming handset,4" screen, 1GHz chip and can be got for under 200€ sim free. Makes far more sense than any of the others really...

    Thanks for the info.
The play does look good, will discuss it w him.
It's 179 on vodafone, where did you see it sim free under 200e?
Someone else has just started a thread on the best place to buy one so I'll keep an eye on that.

I bought this because I had a glut of Tesco coupons lying around.. also, Tesco have this thing where the phone is €20 cheaper if bought with €20 of groceries.

Very grainy\fuzzy screen, probably just the limit on how much you can expand a 320x240 resolution.

Compared to the Samsung Europa, the Galaxy Y has awful viewing angles, awful.

(compare the two phones before having a go at me..)

The processor is a major plus, but the screen clarity isn't up to much.

A niggle for me, one of the shortcuts on the 'Phone Options' Menu (long press power button), has vanished.

The option was a simple single press option for 'Mobile Network ON\OFF', handy for people on Prepay, like myself.

Worth pointing out that the Europa will survive a hardy fall from a bed\table\etc, the back is stuck on like a limpet, whereas, with the Samsung Y, this is very unlikely, it has to have one of the flimsiest catchment set up for keeping the back on.

Oh well. A vanity purchase. I've learnt my lesson..

A much more responsive phone, but with drawbacks.

EDIT: just a warning, the Samsung Y sold at Tesco has a lot of junk packed with the OS, uncluding Adverts\Boards.

This wouldn't be a problem, but for the small matter of it having less internal memory than the Europa!

The old methods for unlocking *DO NOT WORK*, this might be unique to Tesco though, as they do seem to doctor their phones. (Re: Nokia 1616)

This phone has been 'opened' in the last week, the process evolving from a very hairy and bare use of text entry into a terminal window, to.. a clickable app for the lazy\feckless.

XDA member Doky73 is responsible for the app and simplifying things a lot.

A strangely difficult phone to unlock, compared to more expensive models from Samsung.
