    Hi,
I bought a car about 3 weeks ago. But I still havn't got a logbook in the post. The tax website says that ownership hasn't changed in the past few weeks. The car is out of tax 4 months ago so I cant even drive until I get the logbook and have it taxed.
What can I do if I don't get the logbook?

Did you sign the change of ownership part of the previous owner's vehicle registration cert (logbook)?

You should have filled out the log book signed it and the seller posts it!

We bought it from a garage, or so we thought.
When we went to buy the car they told us that we didnt have to fill anything out as it was from a garage and they could just do it online.
But later on it emerged that we didnt actually buy it from the garage but from a person who the garage let sell the car from their property.

    So we didnt sign anything.

    Did you ring them?

How do you know you can't tax it, have you actually tried taxing it at the Motor Tax office and been refused or are you assuming you can't?
Contact the garage about the change of ownership registration. If it has got lost in the system somewhere you can still make a formal declaration that you are the registered owner but it's a bit of a pain to do.
