Restriction on car for the test?

    Hi guys,

I was just wondering if the RSA has any restrictions on what type of cars can be used for taking the test for a B-license?

Basically I was generously offered to be put on an insurance policy on a BMW 1 Series '09 Convertible for my test, but I read that in the UK there are restrictions on such/similar cars, so I was wondering what the case is in Ireland?

    Thanks!

As far as I know, it's fine once you are taxed, insured, NCT'd, the car is roadworthy, has L Plates, etc.

However, if the car is automatic, then you will only be licenced to drive automatic cars if you pass. If it's manual, then you will have an unrestricted B licence (i.e. can drive automatic or manual). Tiptronic, and other 'half-automatic' systems count as automatic, as far as I know.

I realise that the small window puts me at a disadvantage, but I already tried doing it several times around different corners and it's working out fine so far. It just prompts for more active usage of mirrors.
