yes i agree, i cant believe you did not hit with the single lnb idea but its a pig to get. I use a spider box and the good thing with that is it has a signal meter on the channel so say i select mbc and move dish ever so slowly, the signal meter turns green to show a sat signal and blue to show quality so as soon as it shows a sliver of green i pause and wiggle dish by flexing, this is done by gripping the bottom corner for downward and the top corner for upwards. i can watch signal as i do this and see if it improves, if not i move another little bit, the best bit is a picture appears. i have a small tv ie very small that i can lay on roof and thats my secret!!

to clear a 2 storey it will tell you on dishpointer and i think after 30metres signal drops and for mbc thats no good. the problem you have now is the holder may need a wiggle as well.

with the 1.25m dish on the ground i only had to turn a screw half a twist to get elevation of it spot on and then when i went back to sky it was still ok. i am not sure if the foxsat will show a picture as well so will check tomorrow

With the Technomate the initial setup screen has a signal and Q but this could be any satellite if they share a TP setting, which confuses things. However once you get a channel, no matter how fleeting, there is a q meter for that individual channel.

another trick is to mount dish at back of house, if that's feasible and use roofline to block cables at front.

Yeah, don't forget tc started the DS thread you copied that one from.

I appreciate point about back garden. How what's the min distance from two story house could I mount the dish, and how high would I need to go?

Depends on the height of the house in question & the relative levels of the house & dish mounting site, along with the elevation of the needed sats. For a 20 degree elevation with the base of the dish & the base of a 10 metre high obstacle at the same level, you would need to be at least 26 metres from the obstacle. Every 1m you raise the dish will get you about 2m closer on the ground (rough calculations here).

Of course this will all change if your dish mounting site is already at a higher or lower level than the house.

Well still no sign of 26E, so made a visit to Sat World on Saturday to pick their brains......

As usual, more than helpful, but I decided to take the easy way out.

Booked them to come, (Thursday) to re-align dish properly for 28, 26, 19 and 13E.

I know that you will say that I should do it myself for the satisfaction factor, (I did fit dish, LNB's, Diseqc switches etc and have all but 26), but I am no teenager and am fed up running up and down ladders, and with all my "will I get it with....", trees, roof-line, electric cables etc, this way I will know for sure whether it is possible or not.

I will let you all know after they call what the outcome was.

    Cheers,

    TC

t.c I know its a bit late now, but with regards to the running up and down ladders and checking signal levels.
I came across a piece of software in the likvid vu+ toolbox that is invaluable for this.
Its a signal meter that connects to enigma2 boxes via network(I use wifi to my receivers i,p address) allowing you to run the meter on a netbook up the ladder in a bag and listen to the meter calling the the signal levels via headphones or set the netbook up somewhere stable and in sight.
The software uses your preloaded channels on your box and switching lnbs is just a matter of clicking buoquet then channel and adjusting lnb to peak the signal.
Not much use if your receiver isn't E2 but invaluable if it does ;)

Correct, they are big ugly things across the bottom half of the screen. I find them very distracting. However MBC do have a good selection of fairly recent movies in english.
    @ TC
I still havent fully nailed the 26 signal. It is very tempramental. On good days i get the Saudi spot beam which we're not supposed to but on bad weather days even MBCs are erratic. That said, I still haven't put a huge effort into fine tuning yet.

just to add my 2bits to the saga of 26e,i used to have 26e on both my triax1.1 and my 85cm dish's,i still have good signal on the 1.1m although signal level has dropped by 7 or 8 pc,i recently bought a signal meter and have been playing around with it the last 2 weeks or so and i can only get poor signals,i have a pole setup at ground level and it should have been a breeze to get a lock but i struggled for ages to get anything on 26 and even today in perfectly clear skies i barley got the mbc channels to clear and dubai1 was pixaleted,i have the dish peaked to the max as well as the lnb and i should be clearing these channels as i have been doing so for a few years now with the 85cm,i used to lose the mbcs in heavy rain but never in good weather so i think the beams have been powered down or changed as both my dishes have reduced signal, regards

I haven't noticed any reduction in signal strength recently. The strongest tp continues to be 12182 H 16200 Yemen about 7% stronger than 11919 for me.

minterno what lnb are you using?

    Agreed but not by much.
How well do you guys get the 6 Saudi Sports HDs on 12522?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,955 ✭✭✭swoofer

just checked and its 73s and 40q and i am sure it was stronger, not looked outside yet

both my dishes have a darkgold 1db lnb which improved the signal by about 7pc when i first changed over to them.and when i say that my signal has dropped i would be comparing the signal i was getting 12 months ago to now,i
have not checked in ages due to not using the 85cm dish for a while,i would only use it very occasionly, for a match if the wife had the soaps on,i just checked the signal with the triax 1.1m and im well down on signal, its a grand clear night and my readings should be about 10pc higher,im using a spiderbox with the triax and im getting on 11919h S65 Q58,on 12111H S65 Q54,and on 12130V S65 Q62,considering the clear skies this is poor compared to what it used to be,one possible cause might be the lnbs as they do degrade after a while but im only guessing now,but in these clear skies i used to get all i wanted on this sat with the 85cm,i only upgraded due to rain fade on this particuler bird and was surprised not to get a lock on it in the last few days, regards

Well Sat World came, saw and conquered.......

Finally have 26E and am now watching the movie Sunshine on MBC2.

As they said they would, they arrived shortly after 10am, got stuck in and, after a bit of fiddling and fustering around they realigned the dish, re-arranging my LNB holder and finally got 26E. They then moved onto 28, 19 and 13.

The original quote was for €65 to re-align dish which should have taken about half an hour or so. But because of the way I had mounted things and they had to sort it out, thy were hare for the best part of 3 hours.............final cost €80.
Absolutely no problem with cost for time involved and job done. I reckon if it took them that long with the right equipment, I would never have got it sorted.

MBC's are coming in at about 85%S and 63%Q, not sure if I will have a rain problem or not, but sure I will find out soon enough. The sports channels seem to be a little more, 70% Q.

If anyone is having a problem I cannot recommend Sat World enough for their friendly help and work done.

I am delighted to have finally got this sorted. Thanks to all on forum who gave advice and help, really appreciated.

    TC

Hi TC glad to see you got sorted. Did you do a full scan? You should have 202 TV and 79 radio channels I think.

Thanks for good wishes folks, will never go to pub now...........(well!!!!!!)

    @dxhound2005.
Not sure how many channels, did not bother with radio, just FTA TV and I think it was well over a hundred in the list. I will get rid of some of them as a lot are in Arabic etc.

But MBC seem to have good movies on as 88 Minutes is on now with Al Pachino.

Just on a side note, It is also good to have 5USA and 5* on FTA also, and soon on Freesat. Can only piss Sky and UPC off, great, thy have had their own way long enough.

Another tip that the Sat World installer (Casper I think) had was to polish the dome of the LNB's with a good wax car polish to help water run off, so will give this a go to help in the rainy season.

    TC.

great to get it sorted at last,it is a very tight beam and can be missed very easly and there is always some half decent film on dubai 1 or the mbc channels and you also have the 2 hd sports channels one of which shows some bundsliga and tennis, the final price was well worth it,if i was you id mark the pole az and elev with a needle, you know to make a reference mark on the steel in case it gets moved or knocked by the weather, regards

Good to here it & a bonus for those of us who reckoned your dish location was fine where it was. :)

That was a very fair price for 3 hours work ,good value for money.

Thanks again to all for interest shown.

Also, Sat World rent proper meters for €25 per day if anyone is having problems aligning dish to a weak satellite. Again great value.

Any other comments on this aspect? tc, how are you finding the viewing experience so far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 233 ✭✭t c

Yeah Peter, delighted with the result and have watched a few good films on the MBC's and Dubai 1.

Reckon I will try a finer tune come the summer months as I have noticed that during the recent wind that the 26e signal can increase in the gusts, so feel that there is room for improvement as the picture does break up.

Also, delighted with Sport1 on 19e as the world darts are on and I like the darts but never had the world championship, so overall, happy with the whole set-up.
I will photograph the dish later in the year and give a run-down.

One question on the Foxsat HDR. In the Freesat mode I have saved channels in Favourites1, but for no apparent reason and after no particular time period, hours, days or weeks, they can disappear and I have to re-set them. Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Tony

Unfortunately, Fox Movies moved from Badr 4 to Badr 6 some time back and is not now receivable in Ireland.
