It's possible, but places are limited. Not sure of all the details.

Sorry, my original message didn't account for the America part of your post which I missed. You can go to America on exchange iirc, but I don't know if you can get grants for going there. They hold information evenings and explain things there.

Is Erasmus not an EU supported program to promote cultural exchange within EUROPE?
America is not in Europe so has nothing whatsoever to do with Erasmus

From your OWN college website http://www.nuigalway.ie/erasmus/ :
ERASMUS, the European Union's flagship mobility programme...... ERASMUS stands for "EuRopean Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students"
The Erasmus Programme is designed to encourage students to expand their university education by doing part of their academic work in another European university.

Nothing to do with america at all at all!!!

This is taken from this link: http://www.nuigalway.ie/erasmus/outgoing/application.html

"The study abroad option is also open to non-language students, because some of our partner universities offer courses through the medium of English. The number of such study places is limited, though. This opportunity is normally advertised in February, and a competitive selection process applies. The non-language students who are to be nominated must have approval from the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies and from each of the NUI Galway academic departments in which they are studying."

You'd want to email admissions@nuigalway.ie to find out about what muchkin_utd said as the English-speaking universities may not include American colleges.

There are places available in the US from NUIG but they're competitive to get into. You won't be charged fees but you won't be in the EU so you won't be able to work (except in extremely limited circumstances) and you won't get the Erasmus grants.
