new laptop-how to update iphone?

    lads, i want to update to the most recent software on my iphone 4.

    Have a new laptop, when i plug in iphone it tells me all apps, media, etc will be deleted if i update on this laptop. I still have the old laptop but its not really working so how can i make new laptop the one i use and not lose anything off phone?

    Have googled it but still a little unsure
