Tevez to sue Souness over TV blast after Manchester City's defeat at Bayern Munich

Carlos Tevez is planning to take libel action against Sky pundit Graeme Souness in the latest fall-out from the Manchester City striker’s non-appearance in the Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich in September.
Souness was critical of Tevez’s behaviour after manager Roberto Mancini claimed that the striker had refused to come on as substitute and would never play for City again.

Tevez, who is keen to take the matter to court in what would be an unprecedented case against a TV football analyst, has received the backing of two leading media specialist QCs this week.
They feel he has a strong defamation claim against Souness after City charged the player with refusing to warm up and failing to follow instructions rather than refusing to play.
And the players’ union, the PFA, have ensured Tevez has been fined a fortnight’s wages of £400,000 rather than the four weeks City originally imposed.
Souness said on Sky Sports, with clips still on YouTube: ‘I’m in disbelief. How selfish can you get? Tevez is one bad apple. He can undo all the good work that has been done at City. He’s a disgrace to football. He epitomises what the man in the street thinks is wrong with modern football. It is totally unacceptable. He’s a football player and he is paid to play.’

Tevez has maintained throughout the saga that he never refused to come on as a substitute.

    Sky would make no comment.

Daily Mail so slight pinch of salt at the moment, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

Nothing surprises me with Carlos Tevez now, I will be glad when he retires from football which is sad considering the talent he has. If he hadn't of been acting the boll1x ever since the end of last season he could be top scorer in the league right now, awful character.

It's amazing how I liked Tevez when he started in the english premiership compared to what I think of him now. He's level with Stephen Ireland at the moment.

There must be a different law in Ireland.

Dunphy would be bankrupt at this stage if libel cases could have been brought against him for abusing players.

Whenever I see articles like this I substitute Tevez for Kia whatshisname.
I'd say Tevez hasn't a clue what's going on half the time.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is a puffball" springs to mind.

He's said worse. And plenty of times at that.

I remember he called Niall Quinn a ''creep'' in his vigorous defense of Roy Keane.

He must have used the word disgrace(what Tevez is apparently unhappy with) hundreds of times.

Souness has accused players of rape in the past, so it may be that...

One of the funniest TV moments of all time.

Not surprised the PFA stepped in and got it reduced to two weeks

Clubs have tried that many times before and then the union has to step in for their members

Tevez is wasting his time here! It's not exactly libel though is it? Souness called him a disgrace and selfish.

If Souness said Tevez was a closet homosexual, he has a case. But what is he going to say?

"Your honour, i think you'll find if you view my recently taken X-Rays that I am, in fact, not an apple. Not to mention a bad one!"

Has Souness actually been on Sky since then?

At the time I thought to muself that Souness was in a very "RTE" mode that night, with his strong words against Poor Carlos.

Would'nt surprise me if Souness never worked for sky again tbh. They don't like pundits telling it like it is in England for whatever reason (libel?) which is the reason it is so bland and boring.

Just sort it out in a bare knuckle fight. Souness would kill him with one hand tied behind his back.

CT really sums up everything that is horrible about top level football today. The fact that he might salvage his career at city with a mere apology (if its not a ploy by city to shift onus on to him knowing he won't do it ) is a moral failure of staggering proportions.
