Richard Desmond's Channel 5 is to launch a one-hour timeshifted version of its main terrestrial network next month.

Channel 5+1 will launch on Freeview, Freesat and BSkyB in early December.

The broadcaster said the new channel, which will give viewers the chance to catch up on Channel 5 shows such as Big Brother, CSI and children's strand Milkshake, is also "expected" to be available via Virgin Media at some point next year.

Channel 5+1 will join the broadcaster's existing one-hour timeshifted spin-offs from digital channels 5* and 5USA.

ITV launched a timeshifted variant of its flagship channel in January. Channel 4+1 has been on air since August 2008.

Good news, all new additions to the Freesat platform are to be welcomed, even if The Gadget Show is the only thing I watch on 5. 5US and 5* would be nice additions - hope the rumours are true.

Is Wikipedia the only site with that news?

My original post is from The Guardian, and that was taken from the official Freesat site, so yes it's 100% happening!

EDIT: This is in relation to Channel 5 +1, not any other channels!

I know. Trevord rubbished the news simply because it was on Wikipedia.

Hang on, you misinterpreted me. The sarcasm was about the fact that it was already up there as fact on wikipedia.

It has been reported on various sites (avforums, digital spy, joinfreesat etc) as happening as some point soon (next month it seems) but like so many of these freesat lauches we get no official date until pretty much the last minute.
