Don't want to hijack a similar thread about disabling it.

I have been using Firefox for some years now but just wondering if IE is an intricate part of windows should I keep it up to date and have the latest version on board.

Have v7 but v8 is available. win xp.

It would be no harm in updating to version 8, and its true allot of software rely on the IE engine to work, and older versions of IE have serious security concerns (In fairness IE6 is the only 10 year old browser still "in use"!).
You can Download the latest Internet Explorer from that link, IE8 for XP & below, IE9 for Vista/7
