Having used windows for the majority of my life I have switched over to a mac. Sure why not!

Any ways I was just wondering how do I start transferring stuff from my PC to the MacBook Pro?

Also I have an windows 7 CD which I know I can use via bootcamp. How does that work?

Havent a clue about windows 7 stuff.

Get an external harddrive and transfer the files you want to that then onto the mac.

Google 'Migration Assistant' or check under switching to mac on apple.com. It's an application on OSX that will move your data.

If your drive is in FAT32, no problem. If it's in NTSC, you might not see some files, but it should be fine, really. Those bugs have mostly been ironed out. And if you're going to use Time Machine to back up your MBP, your external drive will have to be in HFS/HFS+.

I just bought a new MBP on account of my old one creaking to a halt. Good price, too.

I stand corrected if wrong, but if you install it via Bootcamp you will have to power down to switch between both?? SP?

If you install Parallels (I have it on an iMac) you can just toggle between both.

Only problem that way is that W7 will not recognise the firewire port.

    Hope that helps.

You can reformat your backup drive in apple's disk utility app. It's in the utilities folder, inside the applications folder. The disk utility is also handy for erasing rewritable CDs and DVDs.

That's correct, but many people prefer Bootcamp for various reasons. It's faster and more compatible. The virtual machine method is very heavy on system resources.

With enough RAM, there's no reason to use Bootcamp unless you want to play newer Windows games. Even stuff like Blender and CAD packages are perfectly useable!

One of the main reasons (probably the only reason) is to use CAD via bootcamp. I don't need it a lot but I would like the option.
