Changing a car from private to commercial ?

Was wondering what the process is ? Is it just remove the seats get the form stamped for the tax office and that's it ?

Would my insurance be affected, one of my friends is trying to convince me to go commercial on my car because I don't use the back seats. He said the tax is cheaper , my car is a 2.0 litre.

But what are the pros and cons of a commercial car/van? The car is a lancer evolution so it would really be a strange van.

    Should I do it ?

    Thanks.

Probably a waste of time, as Revenue will not change it's status automatically any more, the regulations are a lot tighter than they used to be, partly because there was abuse.

Would have to take out seats, weld over all seat belt fixings, blank over all rear side windows, and maybe a few other things. Next issue will be providing evidence of business usage, and you will probably be asked for a VAT registration number or similar,

Use for private motoring is a very grey area if the vehicle is taxed commercial, there was a massive stink about this a while back, and the motor tax office may look for a commercial insurance policy to back up the commercial status.

As a commercial it will have to be DOE tested every year, and there are proposals to make the cost of that over €100 per annum.

Toll charges on things like the M50 are significantly higher, even for a car derived van.

    The list goes on
