It's no wonder bookies make so much money.

There was a race in Boyles yesterday, they were doing jollies and the rags. Some fellas beside me were on about the great bet they did,cos they were backing the first four in the market at 6/4

Jollies priced at 6/4,the field 1/2.
Prices of the four jollies were:
    6/1
    8/1
    14/1
    15/2

It was a field of about 16. I loled when the first three home were something like 16/1,16/1 and 20/1

Let us work out the basic maths on this bet:If you backed the four in singles,if the 6/1 won you'd get 9/4 compared to 6/4
    8/1 you'd get 4/1
    14/1 you'd get 10/1.

Such a shower of goons taking that bet,and I see it everyday.

I got my maths wrong on the first,3/1,that's even worse.

If your going by level stakes you have your maths wrong twice its 3/4 on the 6/1 shot.

You lay out 4 and get back 7 so 3/4.

Whens your 1st lot of exams in college US?:D

And by dutching the 4 of them the odds work out as 2.28
so at 2.50 they were getting value :pac:

Edit you have to type in the odds into the calculator yourself for some strange reason.

tenner at 6/1 returns 60 profit
Minus 30 on from the 3 losers

Would give 30 profit,I mean 3/1 on the individual horse

In your example you bet 40 to win 30 not 10 to win 30

    ............

If they take €50 on the jollies and €100 on the field they pay out either €125 or €150. Imagine if Betfair was like that, drooooooooooooooooool :pac:

    What he said.

Backing the 4 favs gives you about 2.28 in decimal prices so the 6/4 is a decent increase on that.

Urban, your lack of knowledge of dutching disappoints me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Haha not as much as it disappoints me, that's why I don't get into that ****.

Nor do I stand around the bookies all day backing a horse in every race followed by a cartoon dog like other mugs

What way were you trying to work this out. LOL
Also, at calling them goons because that could work out the odds

    Simple terms
    $40 @ 6/4 returns $100 if any top 4 win.

Betting @10 on each horse as in your OP returns
    70, 90, 85 or 150

So its +EV for the 3 favourites.

no need to get defensive. they bet because they see something in the bit of information on the racing post sheets or because ruby walsh is the jockey, they dont expect to win overall. Some are degenerates and some go to the bookies to have a bit of fun with mates and stick to fiver bets. Dutching is not ****. Where did you learn all the buzzwords but none of the math?

Haha I have no idea how.

Trust me,these fellas didn't work out the odds.

    I genuinely didn't get defensive,I wouldn't have laughed if I was.

I didn't literally mean it as ****,it was just the phrase 'that ****',not that it was actually ****.

And what buzzwords are you on about?
