Training Post DCM

    Many training programs are all about the build up to the Goal race but there are very few who actually deal with post race so I thought it would be a good idea to start a training post on this:

    My views on this:

    -Recovery should last 2-4 weeks
    -No workouts or races
    -Runs should be kept short- moderate (normal weekly runs but no long runs)
    -Run same amount of days you ran during plan but mileage is lower
    -Pace should be recovery to easy
    -Mineral baths, massages, good hydration, long walks are ideal for recovery

    This recovery phase should be seen as a transition between the Marathon and base building again, You want to allow your body to recover but should also balance this with keeping relatively short so that you do not lose fitness

    Good advice re recovery above. Word of warning about taking too long of a complete break; a few years ago I ran 6:00mins/mile for 10miles. Took a month completely off after that after a few years of running. A month later after a couple of days of easy running I ran a 4m race to see where the fitness was. I ran about 6:06mins/mile and I'd say it was the hardest I've ever had to run in any race or training or anything - absolute killer.

    So do you reckon the 8 mile post marathon race in the park is coming too soon off the back of DCM, esp for novices?

    Yes. Have been fairly vocal about the naming of this event (for the record the company who organise this have absolutely nothing to do with DCM and simply use this as a marketing tool to promote their own event)
