    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone could help I have a 30 year old hand knitted christening gown but there is a yellow stain on the top of it. I was just wondering if anyone knew how I could get the stain out.
Any ideas would be greatly recieved as this has been passed thru my family and my grandmother made it for our family

    Thanks:)

Do you know what it's made from? Cotton, wool?

Have you tried hand washing it in woolite yet?

If it were me I'd bring it to a professional cleaner for advice.

Those yellow stains can be permanent though from my experience.

I agree with Das Kitty that the stain is probably permanent, but you could try handwashing it in lukewarm water with Vanish or baking soda and that might at least make the stain less noticeable.

I have found Ace bleach very good for stains - it sounds dangerous but it is very mild and I have used it on all kinds of fabrics.

An alternative as well is to try a non-chlorine bleach such as many of the 'Oxy-action' type ones out there. Just leave it to soak for a while and then handwash it.
