Milan in December

I'm going Milan in December for a short break. Perhaps you guys could help me with a couple of queries I have -

What will the weather be like? From what I've read it looks like the highest temperatures we can expect will be around 7-10°C and could be as low as -4°C. How accurate are these? Are we talking about coats/gloves/scarfs etc....?

Have any of you guys been to the Boscolo Milano hotel (http://milano.boscolohotels.com)? It certainly looks impressive but I'd love to get some firsthand experience on the hotel. It's only rated 76th of the hotels in Milan per trip advisor. Having said that all the recent reviews of it look very good.

    Thanks.

It's accurate - It can get damn cold around Milan at that time of year, particularly in the evenings.

I was in Milan in December about 3 years ago and it snowed on one of the Days. The Sforzesco castle looked stunning in the snow but the next day it had all melted away.

It was cold, about -2c when we were at the San Siro watching Inter. Lovely city, a great mix of modern and ancient sites. The Last Supper is a must see.

It gets pretty cold. You'll need tastefully coordinated coats and scarves.

    Thanks.

Anyone ever stayed in the hotel I mentioned?

I've stayed here and here Neither of them too bad, not too dear either. The Hotel Corso has small rooms though, but its near le biciclette pub which makes up for it. Milan is a fabulous city - enjoy it!

Unfortunately the OH wants to go with a 5 star hotel which limits the choice. That's before you even start to look at the insane prices of some of the 5 stars in Milan.

I live in Milan - it's currently about 7 degrees here, so cold enough. That said, I remember coming home for Christmas last year and it being much much colder than Milan, could have been a once off though.

Hats/gloves/scarves would be vital, bear in mind as well that it will probably snow at one point or another and that it turns to a grey, slushy, slippy mess.

Can't help you with the Boscolo, but second the recommendation to see the Last Supper (you must prebook though, you can't just walk-in on the day). The Church of San Bernardino alle Ossa is pretty nice and ominous (the small side chapel is decorated with human bones), other top recommendations would be the Capella Portinari and the Cimitero Monumentale.
