    Hello all,

Apologies for the lon winded OP. Bear with it if you can. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently driving an '05 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 petrol.

Great little car all round. Have had it about 9 months. No bother at all.

Recently, it started to give a whistling type noise when it warms up. The noise seems to be coming from the rear wheel, drivers side.

The noise started a while back coming and going randomly, generally when the car was well warmed up & driving around a corner to the right. It would stop by straightening up or by tapping the brakes. It progressively got worse, until it got to a stage where it whistled prettly loud constantly, and wouldn't stop by tapping the brakes.

I spoke to a few people who suggested that it could be a wheel bearing or dust on the brakes.

I was due a service, so last week I got it serviced and explained my problem. The mechanic had a look and reckoned the front driver wheel bearing was pretty bad and replaced it.

I assumed that would be the end to my problem (naive I know, considering the noise seemed to be coming from the rear driver wheel).

Anyway, I took it for a long spin this weekend (200k) and after about 100k the whistling starts again. Same spot. Rear driver wheel.

Its similiar to when it started originally, it will go off with a tap of the brakes. But I get the feeling the noice is going to get progressively worse. I am also concerned there is a bigger problem.

Any advice appreciated. All I want at this stage is to get the car sorted.

    Cheers.

EDIT - Sorry Mods, just realised there is a maintenance forum. Can you move this over. Apologies again for the error.
