Took another at a friends ranch in California this last weekend.

We were after a true 450 lb monster spotted there 3 weeks ago, but got this fella instead. He came in at 275 lbs.

Shot on the run with a .270. Shot entered behind the ribs, and destroyed the liver, lungs and heart. The pig dropped on the spot and did the chicken dance for about 5 seconds. The only one I've seen die quicker was one I shot in the neck with a 660 grain shotgun slug from 10 feet away.

The bullet was recovered (did not exit) and had mushroomed well. A fragment also appeared to have veered off at an angle doing more damage.

Will be made into mostly sausage - the boars tend to be a bit gamier tasting.

What will I hunt when I go back to Ireland???!!! I am already worried.

You needn't go all the way to California to do it, either. I read recently that they can't get enough hunters to keep the population in check in France. I don't hunt, but buy wild boar meat in Estonia, which I visit often. You can go there and shoot them, too. The meat is delicious, like a cross between pork and turkey. I just brown it in a pan and then 15 minutes or so in a hot oven and the result is mouth-watering.
