Firewall Issues

    Today after looking through my settings and getting rid of one or two trojans buried in my computer I noticed my firewall was off, when I attempted to turn it back on it refused and said;

    "Action Center can not turn on Windows Firewall"

    When I select use recommended Firewall Settings it replies:

    "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings Error code 0x8007042c"

    I also use McAfee virus software, the full version, no trials, and when I try to change the firewall status it turns on, then goes off about a second later, any ideas or suggestions or am I looking at a possible full system restore here?

    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

    It's most likely McAfee, in my eyes it is a virus, remove it and your problems will most likely go away and your PC will feel faster. Terrible POS software.

    The free options are much better, with Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes running scans every so often you'll never have a problem and have a nice snappy PC

    Hi there, Wondering can anybody help me with something??? I think its a firewall problem not sure, but when I go onto certain websites on my laptop, (one is littlewoodsireland.com), It shuts my internet off. a MESSAGE COMES UPS SAYING THIS WESITE WILL CAUSE INTERNET TO SHUT DOWN ! Can anyone tell me whats happening??? I have phone UPC and its the fault at thier end. Thanks so much Regards Sarshie

    Is that the exact message? How does it appear? In a separate dialogue box, or as a web page?
    Your interaction with UPC is unclear. Did they say is was, or was not a problem at their end?

    I hope this is not off topic, but I seem to be having an issue with the firewall on my Mcafee software.I cant view for instance, youtube videos (wont load up) or the podcasts on websites. If I turn off the firewall, youtube vids will load perfect and play. The same will happen with the podcast. In the frewall settings, there are options like full access and outgoing only access. Its on the outgoing, and I changed to full, but still the problem is there.Pages are slow to load up too.

    I hate to be 'that guy', but IMO, you will always have issues with McAfee, because it is rubbish. The standard Windows firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials is more than enough. Couple that with a bit of common sense while browsing, and you'll be fine.

    When you say standard, mcafee is the only one thats installed on my computer.

    If the OS is Windows XP, SP2 or later, it has a built-in firewall. Third party firewalls are unnecessary, regardless of what a salesperson will tell you.

    Did you uninstall the 1st anti virus? Two can conflict with each other and slow your pc right down.

    Yeah, it actually does more harm than good having two installed :-\ uninstall any other antivirus and stick MSE on it

    Just an update, I contacted the mcafee technical section online, and to be fair they did reply promptly.Apparently, that issue I have is a known issue. They told me to turn off the net guard feature which did improve things ok.When there is a fix to this issue, they will update me hopefully.

    Get rid of McAfee, it is a virus, they just want your cash. MSE will do a better job and not annoy you for money
