have a 2004 ford transit 90/t330. has a 2.4 duratorc engine and is rear wheel drive. It wont accelerate any higher than 3500 rpm and struggles to get to that. had a small unit on the back of the diesel pump replaced and in the process discovered that the manifold was all choked up with soot. cleard all we could get at and have been putting diesel injector cleaner(redex) through the diesel since but it has gotten worse not better. anyone have a similar problem or a possible solution?

Any diagnostic scan done and if so any fault codes logged?

yes the garage that i took it to ran a diagnostic and thats why the unit on the pump was replaced. he told me that no other fault was shown. Going tyo take it back tomorrow but wanted to get some advice from those wiser than me on such matters.

Is normal power there sometimes or is it always lacking?

its always lacking. b4 the unit was replaced i had loads of power untill i got to 3000rpm and then it would start to chugg, like there was a miss in the engine. but since i got the part changed on the pump it has just been dead on power struggling to get anything

just got the diagnostic check done and the mechanic reacons that it could be either a stretched timing chain or the injector pump that is at fault! gonna start with the timing chain anyway as its just a little cheaper to do.

Do you know what the fault was? Was it P0149? This may be fuel pump timing due to slack in the chain. Sometimes adjusting the timing is sufficient to bring them back into spec. Worth trying before replacing the chain. P0149 code would also explain why they replaced the fuel pump timing solenoid first off.

yeah think that was the code. didnt see it myself but think that is what he said. Tried adjusting the timing but no success. getting the chain done now and if that dont work looks like i'll be forking out for a reconditioned pump.

Check that one of the intercooler pipes hasn't come off. I've seen this happen a few times with transits.
