I did it last week, got it no problem, no idea if it was easier/harder than previous one.

I skimmed through the Driver Theory Test book once and had maybe 37 questions that I immediately knew the answer to. I went back then and took my time on the other 3 and got them all right.

I'd say if anyone spends time reading the book then they should find it easy enough.

As far as I know, it's just an updated bank of questions - the level of difficulty hasn't changed, per se.

Just did it today, now it was for bus not car, but was basically the same stuff, what might catch people out is if they just learn of by rote the questions and don't actually think about the question and answer, as some of the questions have differently worded answers to before.

    Theory Test Certificate
Eyesight report (get an eye test for a Learner Permit application at any optician's, costs about €15).
€15 fee (for 2 year Learner Permit).
2 passport photos, signed at the back.
Passport, birth cert, or some form of ID.

See here for more details: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/driver_licensing/learner_driving_permits_for_cars_and_work_vehicles.html
Note, you cannot send cash by post, but you can pay with cash if handing in the forms etc. at your local motor tax office.

The layout of the fifth edition of the book is a little different. What happens in the theory test - is it just selecting answers on a screen or do you've to write anything? cruizer101 is right about watching out for the wording.
