Process for trading in games

I have never done it before but am thinking of trading in a few very soon as there are a lot of good games coming out at the moment

so can someone explain the process?

I assume I bring in game plus case plus booklet, ask for trade-in value, they give me two figures right? one for straight cash and one for in store credit which is usually higher, right?

then if i am happy with the price offered i hand them the game, well the part I am unsure of is how long do I have to wait before they approve the trade, for example what if the booklet has a coffee stain on it or the disc has a few scratches but still works fine, are they strict about that kind of stuff? also do I have to wait around while someone goes in the back and starts the game up to check if it actually works - how long is this waiting process and more often than not will they take the game off you even if it's not in perfect condition? let me know

    It's normally very fast.
Think you need to rethink those double digits though... depending on the age of the game.

Not sure if scratches will be acceptable though. Coffee stains maybe - they might just dump the manuals.

Sometimes it is better to go the private route though if your games show any damage then don't go there - you just risk getting a bad rep which will affect future attempted sales.
Basically the store will just do a quick check on each game you have - condition of box, booklet and visual of disc. Have never tried to trade anything damaged so I have no idea of the result in that case.

HMV require instruction booklets for trade in now. Gamestop/Game take them, but knock 2 euro off the price, if its missing the booklet.
