DS if you can get it for a reasonable price. the PSN version is the PS1 version and still has the loading problems

Whatever you do don't get the PSN version. The music is a bit off but the worst thing about it are the absolutely terrible loading problems that totally ruin the pace of the game. It really isn't worth it.

Yeah 3DS version is great, loved the game from start to finish.

Is Chrono cross a worthy follow up btw? Are there any characters from Trigger in it?

Chrono Cross is basically a terrible follow up. It takes a small part of Chrono Trigger and builds on it and then takes a dump all over the original game in terms of story. However you should play it as a stand alone game and not a sequel and it's not so bad.
