Can I Work Part-Time Jobs With A Green Card....

I've been having trouble finding an answer; I figured someone here might be able to help me.

Assuming someone already has a Green Card and is working full-time in a position that qualifies for a Green Card, can he also work a part-time job....or is his Green Card tied to that job and only that job?

For example, a software engineer might work a full-time job, but then occasionally perform free-lance work for local companies at an hourly wage. Would a Green Card holder be able to do that, legally?

I'm sorry, I might just be confused; but I want to do this in Ireland. Should I still post in the other forum?

Ireland does not have a green card system and instead has a permissions system with different stamps. Some stamps only allow a certain amount of work to be done part time (eg student visa), while others eg stamp 4 allows free reign to work.

Best place to check is the inis.gov.ie website.

I presume that citizensinformation.ie refers to some country other than Ireland so

Anyway OP when you get your green card you are supposed to recieve a statement of your rights and entitlements which should explain if you are allowed extra work

some non national often mistake the GNIB as green card.

Interesting question, my gut would say as the greencard unlike a work permit is in the holders name not the employer, then other work should be allowed, but on the other hand considering that the employer must also be notified of granting of permit, it may not be allowed. But to be sure it would be best to contact Jobs and enterprise. See http://www.djei.ie/publications/labour/2011/Guidelines-GreenCards-June11.pdf

You can only work in the job in which you applied for the Green Card. You are not free to move employer for the first year and a new Green Card Application must be made if you wish to change employer so it's relatively clear from this that you would not be permitted to work as an employee elsewhere. Don't forget, when you go to renew your Green Card you will be expected to show P60's which will show 2 employers, which will clearly flag the fact that you have been "double jobbing" which may cause problems renewing.

I'm from the US - I'm not sure if I have any stamp. I have a passport and I flew here about two months ago.

Ahh - gotcha. I suppose that makes sense. That's too bad. Thank you!
