Looking for some help on the correct wheel offset for an e90 3 Series.

I got a set of replica alloys from done deal that are 17 x 8 with a 35 offset, guy in garage today who I couldnt really understand was saying they will not fit my car. Want them for winter tyres.

Anyone know if this is true? Have no idea what offset the original alloys that are on the car now are, but have 225/45 17 tyres.

Are you sure its the offset thats the problem? The wrong offset will cause the wheels to either sit in too far, fouling the shock or caliper or sit out too far, fouling on the wheel arch. An 8x17 wheel with a 35mm offset shouldn't have either of those issues on an e90.

Are you sure its not the PCD thats the issue? PCD = Pitch circle diameter or the spacing of the wheel stud holes.

Well there replica BMW wheels so I'd imagine everything should be the same.

If I take the original ones off will I be able to tell what their actual size is?

Well why won't they fit? Are they rubbing, don't fit over the brakes, stud holes don't line up or whats the fitting issue. Replica wheels are available in several fitments for various cars.

If you take off your old wheels, stamped inside the spokes will be the size, PCD and offset.

Wrong offset is a Pandora's box:

It f*cks with steering geometry, stability (blowout scenario) and hub bearing wear.

    Looks nice, works bad...

Yeah thats the plan for today. The guy in the garage just said they wont fit and had a bit of a laugh, then said that he sells them.

I was just up they looking for the BMW center cap as one was missing from the four I bought through done deal and the cap from BMW parts was too big.

Just want to make sure everything will be allright, getting the winter tyres fitted to them next week and didnt want to do that if they were going to be a problem with them.

All of the 17" wheels for the e90 are 8Jx17 and have an offset of 34mm

    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=VG92&mospid=50492&hg=36&fg=15

I doubt the extra 1mm will make a difference.

Cheers Robbie thanks for that. Does the 8J mean anything or does that just mean 8in??
