Torn Ligament and running

I tore a ligament in my ankle last April and I'm still in pain when I walk.

I tore it running and haven't run since but now I've decided to quit the gym and go back running as I was beginning to see going to the gym as a chore rather than recreational which is what running is.

The doctor said that the ligament probably won't heal as there's very little blood flow to the area so to go back running.

Does anyone have any advice on going running with an ankle injury and maybe how to get it to recover more?

Did you a physio. I've found doctors quite poor vs physio when it comes to recovering from injuries like that.

Ah now it will heal, it just takes time because of the lack of blood flow. Get yourself to a good sports injury specialist. If you haven't been doing any strengthening or ROM exercises you've not been helping yourself.

Sports people do their ligaments in all the time - if you're still having trouble with it 6 months later you need it seen to by someone who knows what they're doing.

No I haven't seen a physio as I'm in the UK at the moment and you have to be referred for things like that. The doctor said he should have referred me for an xray when he saw me 6 months ago but last week when I went again about it said that there's no point now that it's so long afterwards. He just said to continue using anti-inflammatory creams.

I have been doing strengthening exercises but I'm no expert on things like that so don't know how good they are! I'll see how I go over the next few weeks sure and take things slowly.

Just a reminder that noone here can give you advice on your injury as we are unqualified and cant see it. A sports physio might be worth a try. You book them privately rather than by referral.

Sorry OP, if there's an existing injury we can't give advise here - it would be only too easy to exacerbate the problem. Unfortunately the only thing we can do is tell you to see a medical professional.
