Forgive the pun folks but an honest question.

My sky dish is currently on the roof of my house. Now because of the direction my dish must face it has to be on the roof or the front of the house. The side will not work.

However there is another option. The back wall....

The reason i am considering this is 2 fold.
    1. Its difficult to find installers who will climb on my roof and then not damage a tile

    2. Its easier to do repairs later when lower down.

So my question is this... Is there a max the cable length can be,

My garden is 30 foot. Then my house is about 30 foot then down the side is another 30 so all in all we are looking at 100 ft of cable.

It would work at that distance, only issue is protecting cable going across garden. Use good quality cable CT100 or better.
Why not put it on back wall of house looking out over roof, would cost for t&k brackets and length of pole but no need for installer to go on roof for repairs etc, used to be only option one time when los was not on side wall of house,

"CT100 or better" How many times has that been parroted on forums? CT100 hasn't been made in years.

OP, I would think 100ft of (decent) cable would be ok, provided the signal starts out at a sufficiently high level. Might be no harm to get a bigger dish.

Also, an amplifier can be introduced along the line if necessary.

Thank you both but please dont get into an arguement. Its shareing after all.

Can you explain the amplifier bit. Can it be stored outside.

Why i am honestly thinking of the back wall also is it allows me change the LNBs and dish without climbing etc.

Some info about line amps here.

Shoudn't really be necessary in your case.

Would you consider brackets and pole on the back of the house?
What kind of roof do you have, what makes it awkward?

There's nothing wrong with the OP's plan, keeping the dish easily accessible is a perfectly sound idea, as long as it doesn't receive any unwanted attention.

I have no problem putting it on brackets on the back of the house. I just want to get to it for DIY additions etc. Thats why i am thinking the back wall I am thinking of buying a better dish. Basically just planning to get more and want to access it easier.

    Thanks for your help

I think it's just a sort of colloquialism within the trade for good grade copper-on-copper cable.

The main ones these days would probably be Triax TX100 or Webro WF100.

If it was a job I was doing for a customer I'd put the dish on the back, still easily serviceable from a ladder but also a lot easier and cheaper to add an extra cable or cables for sky plus or another box in the future.

Whatever you end up doing op make sure you have a good think about it, what seems like a good option now might not be in the future.

That's the installer's view, the amateur "tinkerer" will have a different outlook (& thank goodness for that). Cable isn't that expensive.

A good installer would prefer do what's best for the customer, not what's easier to do, I'm sure a cowboy would love to come along and do a 100ft cable drop just for the extra money.
