Will Dana and Mary Davis lose their 200k?

After hearing the news that they are polling at the bottom, will both of them lose the money that they invested in their campaigns?

I suppose it will be no bother for Mary Davis anyway if so, as it's probably less than a year's salary for her.

Yep. I think you have to poll 12.5% or more to get 200,000 expenses back. Neither of them will manage it.

Can't imagine Dana spent anything near €200k

Dana, Davis and Mitchell will probably not reach the quota, very doubtful if Norris will either.

Dana and Norris didnt spend a lot compared to the others, they had no posters which would be one of the most expensive parts of a campaign.

Mitchell said on the Late Late that FG were going to spend €350,000 which is probably a conservative figure. Its a lot of money either way so Kenny & Co will have to hold a few more Golf fund raisers for their NAMA developers.

Davis was always a bit coy about where her money came from, either way its gone, I cant remember what she said on the Late Late but it was either €160,000 or €200,000 so thats a fair knock to take as well.

I doubt Dana spent 200K, but Denis O'Brien spent real money on those Reese Witherspoon posters.

Mitchell won't lose anything, FG will!

Davis should have never kept trying to get seeking council support. She had a bad start from the beginning.

Fine Gael will be hoping they hit the target, the party spent serious money on the campaign

It's looking impossible now with Mitchell on about 6.5% - if he finishes behind Norris on the first count, he will be elimated along with Dana and Davis.

Even if he finishes ahead of Norris, he won't get enough transfers from Norris, Davis and Dana to get him anywhere near the 12.5% figure.

It's a humiliation for Mitchell no doubt about it.

these guys had unrealistic expectations, a private individual should have a fair idea of what they are likely to poll, in that case they deserve to loose.

    http://www.rte.ie/news/presidentialelection/results.html

    Quota: 885,882

so the magic figure is 221,471
    The top 3 are OK

The only way Gay can get his expenses is attract 108,150 transfers out 209,346 votes given to the three candidates below him, that's over 51% not counting people who didn't put a preference.

Count Progress: 27 of 43 on round 2 shows he's picked up just 8,990 votes out of the 99,877 from the ladies.

He has 9% of the transfers from 63% of the count so call it 14% downhill with the wind behind it on count 2.

I'd guess a lot of that is Dana and it's as good as he'll get and not close to a quarter of what he needs.

He will need something like 80-90% of the transfers from Norris in count 3 and that just isn't ever going to happen.

The only reason why Gay should be not be eliminated on the next round as well as Norris is that it is mathematically possible for him to get to a quarter quota. He can't catch McGuinness

cba doing the exact maths on eliminating McGuinness too on round 3 as he's 270K behind Gallagher and couldn't possibly catch up, but that's up to the returning officer.

I doubt Norris will get his expenses paid either but 16 years of disability while working at other jobs should see him alright! From the figures on the late news it even looked dodgy for mcGuinness reaching the figure but there are counts to go yet.

He got 13.7% of the first preference vote , 12.5% gets you expenses. He was always going to pick up a few transfers so it should have been apparent early on that he get his expenses. Not that it matters since it's unlikely he paid for much of the campaign 'cos he doesn't have much money as he keeps telling us.

Maybe he will donate his expenses to some of his victims?

I'd say Gallagher could do with a digout.

Gay now needs 80.7% of transfers from Norris to get any expenses

the one positive out of all this is that celeberity ? candidates will think twice before foisting their sillyiness upon the populance.

I'd imagine none of the candidates will personally be out of pocket tbh despite what they say.

Dana can always record another yacky religious song for her insatiable American fundamentalist audience, and I suppose she's loaded anyway.:D

Mary Davis has a basic salary of €13,000 a month from the special Olympics job, plus a few bob here and there from this and that quango, so I can't see her having to turn to the Vinnies any time soon.

Gay Mitchell is likewise loaded after all those years with his snout deep in the EU trough.;)

David Norris is certainly not poor and has made it clear that he took a financial risk and, gentleman that he is, will meet his commitments even if he has to tighten his belt for a while.:)

No need to lose any sleep over them.

Would FG not be picking up the tab, no? Anyone confirm?

Am I the only one to feel sorry for the likes of Dana? I remember she tried the last time but didn't get in for some reason or another and it was a pretty big story (albeit I was young at the time so maybe there were other names in the mix I don't know really) Although you could argue if she wanted it THAT much then she could have spent the time since learning Irish or becoming more involved in community activities rather than RTE "Reality TV Shows"...

I just got the feeling that she genuinely wanted the office of the President not for some wacky or strange reason but because of the task of representing the Irish people. Let's face it she may not be everyone's cup of tea but she seems like a nice person in general (when she's not completely PARA about absolutely everything!!!)

Lastly her little face with the sparkly background on the ballot paper, just so naive and desperate so can't help but feel sorry for her!

PS And no no I'm not Dana!!!!!

7 years is a long time to remember that, although our new elf might not even last half that time.

Quote from INDO..."Fine Gael lost €700,000 on their worst presidential election ever, reduced to an abject 6pc of the poll"...

If FG lost the above is it pssible that the Ind's also lost similiar sums ?

No you are not - I didnt vote for this time or last, but it is clear that much of the criticism directed at her. and most of it be self-proclaimed liberals, arose because these people actually hate her for having opinions that dont match their own ' liberal' politically correct nonsense. I dont agree with many of her opinions, but I respect her for being willing to stand up to the bully boy faux liberals. It is kinda curious that mary Davis came in for so much abuse as well. Funny also that much of the abuse came from people who apparently support ' Human Rights' activists.

Were you somehow expecting self-proclaimed liberals to like Dana's opinions?

Dana actually believed that her enemies tried to assassinate her. She's as nutty as squirrel poo.

Norris proclaimed there was a conspiracy to keep him out of the election !:D
No I am not expecting people to like or agree with her opinions but a little less of the hatred would have been appropriate from faux liberals !

Liberals can hate people who are against liberalism. I checked, it's allowed.

I have to confess that I thought one of the characteristics of Liberals was that they didnt hate others !
However I am not sure if the irish version of Liberalism is closely related to the better know international version. It seems to me to be an unusual hybrid of Liberalism crossed with Sarah Palinism !
