Renault Main Dealer Servicing

Anyone has experience with having their Renault serviced in either of Bill Cullen's Dublin garages?

I have a 2010 Megane needing service soon, I've bought it from Joe Norris Motors in Meath and I would be happy to have it serviced there (and they are quite accommodating) but being from South Dublin it's a long way to go for a service. On the other hand I've heard nothing good about the 2 Dublin dealerships. Wondering if anyone recently had their car serviced there and any feedback?

    Thanks!

I think it used to be the case that Bill's garages would provide the training for Renault mechanics, so you might get a more experienced mechanic with better tools. It's been about 18 years since I've been in their garages though, so who knows :D

I used Airside to fix a minor issue and for a service, no complaints about either. They were fully upfront about certain things that may add to the cost, such as extra work involved if I wanted the pollen filter changed and gave me the option of getting it done or not rather than just going ahead with it and charging me the extra labour. Will be going back again anyway.

I don't look after the service side of things, but I think we generally use Liffey Renault if we have to send stuff in to a main dealer in Dublin. Feedback from the service guys wouldn't be fantastic.

Sure, Navan's a lovely town to while away a few hours in, so it is to be sure.

You don't need to have it serviced in a Renault dealer to maintain your warranty or service history.

I brought my 06 Megane to one of Bill's garages (outside Dublin) for a service in early September. Got excellent customer service from everyone I dealt with and the work on the car was fine. As part of the service, they did a 25 point safety check which indicated that I needed new front tyres and also the brakes, front discs and brake fluid needed changing. I asked and was quoted about €330 for the work. The service guy stressed that the brakes badly needed to be done and the tyres had about another 1 mil left before they became illegal.

That was a Friday. The following Thursday I rang back to try to book the car in, first call I was told the service dept were at lunch and to ring back after 2. Second call, I was told the service guy was on the phone and would call me back. No one rang me that day. I rang again on the following day and spoke to the service guy, explained what I wanted and he said he would call me back to book the car in. Nothing.

What I'm wondering is, is what I had too small a job for a main dealer to bother about ? I know it's only a few hundred Euro, but I read that garages are crying out for work.

I ended up getting the tyres, brake pads and fluid done today in my local tyre place, they said they'd never heard of changing discs ( to be fair, it's in the Owners manual that they should be changed at about the mileage I have) but they had a look and said they seemed fine.

Sounds like a regular enough job for a dealer to be interested in doing, don't think Bill would be too impressed with that level of service....He wants warriors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They had never heard of changing brake discs in your local place? Are you sure they said that??

I buy parts in Liffey Valley and get main dealer recall work carried out there. I would recommend them but surely a 2010 Megane can be serviced by your local dealer, no matter what franchise he sells new...!

Surprised to see the other poster not being rung back - their phone system shows missed calls and always call me back, regardless of what phone I've rung from.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. They said that they didn't know about changing a disc when it wasn't obviously damaged. They had a look when replacing the pads and said the discs looked fine.

IMO if they are servicing your car properly they should be able to tell you the current thickness of your disks versus the manufacturer specifications and not just that they 'look' fine.

Disks are not required at any specified mileage as how quickly they wear depends on the use the car gets and the driving style.

I brought an 04 megane to Renault Liffey Valley as the engine warning light was flashing, although the car was driving ok.
They checked it out told me it was flagging for upstream oxegen sensor. This was replaced I drove off and within 50 km the same warning light was back. Back to renault who did some more jiggery pokery with sensors but again withiin 50 km warning light back on again. Again returned to renault who had the car 2 full days- eventually they called me to say the ECU (computer) would need to be replaced at a cost quoted of 950 euro.
To which I said fcuk off as I also felt it was a cop out and because they couldn't diagnose the issue they would simply replace the computer.

Eventually I brought car to a mate who found a coil had gone and light has not come on since, (I have since sold it)
Also I found the customer service people rude; like i was a hassle to them as I kept coming back, but the mechanic was sound enough even though he didn't fix my problem.
So in a nutshell not a good experience with them.

Something similar to the previous poster. About 2 years ago a work colleague had a scenic that was running rough and brought it to Joe Norris. She spent over €1400 with them replacing ecu and some throttle body and still didn't solve the problem. An independent mechanic replaced the plugs and 2 coils for €120 and no problem since. Renault run best on Renault own brand plugs and not spurious ones. Joe Norris mechanics didn't even check those.

Thanks everyone, based on advice here I think I'll give Airside a go. Rang them they don't have a courtesy car available until 14th!!! How can a garage that size not have them available I don't know, unless they are trying to discourage people from asking for it!

Have you any idea of the cost involved in having a courtesy car available for every customer?

They keep them for people left without cars after breakdowns, not people who have the ability to schedule their work weeks in advance.

I have to agree, its utterly unreasonable to expect a garage to have courtesy cars available for every customer on demand. If they are a decent sized garage and have 20 scheduled jobs a day, they should have 20 courtesy cars their waiting?

They would have 1 or 2 max I'd say and customers who can't figure out how to get to and from the garage without a car wouldn't be top of the list for them!

Dear Genius Nissan Doctor (sounds like you're in the trade yourself, eh?),

If the brand in question has a very limited dealer network in Dublin, you will be forced to ask for a courtesy car. In this case, I work at the other end of the city (near Bray), and I would love to see how you would advise me to travel to and from the garage in swords and make it to work at a reasonable time. Maybe I should drop my car, take the bus to Sutton or Malahide (30 mins?) and then dart to Bray (60 mins?) and then bus to work (15 mins?), and the same on the way back? Does that make sense to your holiness? and for me to take a few hours off work will cost a good bit of money and I'd rather not incur that expense.

The upshot of this for the dealer is that they will get a lot more work for catchment areas much further away. I'm sure if I worked in the city centre or north side I would take public transport, or if there was a dealership in the southside.

But in the absence of that, it's my way or the highway, if they can't provide me with a courtesy car then they simply won't get my business!

Time for some people to understand that garages need to provide some service for the money they charge!

If the OP can't respond without insults this thread is going nowhere.

Question has been answered already so thread closed.
