Unemployment woes

I feel so trapped. Husband unemployed. Like many others in the country he is super highly qualified and working so hard trying to find work. I'm committed to a course which I can't leave for another 18 months and working part-time. The bottom line is that we would leave Ireland if I could. So we're stuck. We're both so stressed and tired and worried, and right now, barely even speaking to eachother. I know that there are thousands out there in this boat and even worse boats, and I'm sorry to whinge, but there's only so much moaning that friends and family can listen to, isn't there. I feel so down and hopeless and terrified that we will never get back on our feet and I am so worried about how all this is affecting our usually gorgeous relationship. Just wanted to get that off my chest.

I know you probably don't want to get into too much detail on a public forum but is there a reason why you can't take up the same course in another country? Or find a correspondance version of it?

if there is and it's just not possible to work around this then an 18 month deadline seems like a fair enough compromise for you guys. It must seem like forever away but if you & your husband know that in 18 months you will be finished college & you will be leaving for a place you both can work then maybe it'd be a light at the end of the tunnel. He could start looking into where you'd go & job opportunities for him there

Thanks for the response. There are no alternatives to this course overseas. I've looked into it and even if I was to do a similar qualification which isn't quite so specific, I would have to start from scratch. :-(

op, not sure where you are based as you're unreg'd.. but i did hear on the radio 98FM about their initiative to promote work although 98fm is more for Dublin area only.. there might be something for your husband in his field of expertise..

Might be no harm keeping an eye on it.. it's on their website also

Hope it works out for you and your husband..
