    Hi,

Has anyone been to Hawaii on honeymoon:confused:. We are thinking about it & would just like to get some feedback on what its like if anyone has been there?
We are roughly thinking of doing Las vegas, san fran, LA & fly to Hawaii for the last part of trip for some relaxation if its possible!
Anyone know is this a good idea or could anyone recommend a route?
Is it expensive over there food/drink etc?
    Any info would be brilliant

    Cheers:D

We did that exact honeymoon a few years ago and we found by the time we got to Hawaii we were very tired from all the travelling. I think you would be better going to Florida or Mexico for the last part of the trip as you are breaking up your journey home. Would highly recommend Las Vegas,LA,San Fran though

Thanks a mil for that ^^

We were actually thinking of Mexico (Cancun) instead of Hawaii too.
Did you do any driving when in States or was it all flights from Las Vegas, San Fran, LA? The travel agents suggested fly to Vegas (4 nights) then fly to san fran (3 nights) then drive to LA (3 nights) & drive to San diego (3 nights)? Very hard to know as have not been that side of States before.
By any chance did you do it this way:D??

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't do 3 nights in LA tbh. There's only about a day's worth of stuff to do there at most. It's also a long enough drive from SF to LA and boring as hell if you take the main route. You can take the coast highway but it's 10 hours+ of driving. We did the coast highway from SF to LA but broke it up into 3 parts with two stops of 2 nights each in between. We took two nights in LA, but if I were to do it again, I would probably keep on driving right by LA and go to San Diego instead.

We did a couple of days in LA, then 5 nights in Oahu and 7 in Maui, then one more night in LA on the way home to break up the travel. Cancun is grand, but resorty, Hawaii is another world altogether. Put all your resources into spending as much time there as possible

What we done was go to Hawaii for 5/6 nights (we were coming from Oz), flew into LA spent three days there but 2 is loads. Flew to Vegas for three nights, love vegas its amazing. Flew back to LA, bused it to San Diego for one night then drove to SF with one stop on the way. Didnt like SF, would prefer LA, SD & LV.

I completely agree with Seamus (on LA) and the corpo (on Hawaii). It wasn't on a honeymoon, but we spent time in San Fran then Vegas, San Diego, LA then onto Hawaii. San Fran was cool, so many great sights, I loved that city. Vegas was kinda cool, not really sure how honeymoonesque it is, I would have considered it a party holiday there. I didn't really think anything of LA, didn't get the attraction of it, kinda felt like I was in a massive city without the cool factor of NY.

Hawaii was a different story, hands down the best place I've visited. Maui is beautiful, lush rainforests, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, lu'aus, surfing. It can be as relaxing or adventure packed as you'd like. Oahu is similar but with less adventure and more urban life. And the Big Island has an amazing volcanoe than you can get helicopter tours over, and see lava spewing out. Islands are hour-two hour flights (if I remember correctly).

Best few weeks I've ever spent.

    Thanks for all the info.
Every place sounds fab maybe bar LA! So might just do 1 night there.
    Jus another few Questions sorry....
Is San diego worth a look?
What places are good to stop off for a night if we were to do the coast highway drive San Fran to LA?
Is it about 5/6 hours to fly from LA to Hawaii?

    Thanks again

Just back from honeymoon in Hawaii, went direct with no stops as didnt want to have to repack and spend time constantly in airport as we have done that through out many of our travels and we knew we would be exhausted after the wedding so just wanted to do all the travelling and airport security etc in one day.

Loved hawaii, two negatives off the top of my head 1) its expensive all round compared to mainland US everything seems to be much more dearer and the hotels can be expensive to stay and eat in. 2) its a long way away and a lot of travelling(27 hours door to door) so although we didnt break it up you should break it up on the way. I recommend Vegas as love that place, wasnt keen on San fran though.

Any other q's on hawaii just pop them up here.

Edit: nearly everyone we met there was on honeymoon so any preferential treatment for been on honeymoon will be non existent, im talking comped upgrades, people making a fuss etc...

I was in Hawaii for honeymoon would highly recommend it. We stayed in Mauii a quiter island. Weather was fab. Sunsets are something else. We stayed in the Hyatt Regency lovely hotel. Thing can be a bit deared than the Mainland but worth it. Thing are quiet at night and everyone is up early. We stopped in San Fransisco on the way out Yesomite is well worth a visit. Stay overnight as is is a 16 hour day trip. Stopped in Chicago and New York on the way home. Chicago was highlight of the trip.

Can you go all inclusive in Hawaii? Or is it better not too? Is food & drink expensive there? The hotels seem to be bit pricey but I guess it is Hawaii! What Island would be the best to stay on or does that matter?

myself and the girlfriend were not on honeymoon but did a US tour:

Toronto (1Day), San Francisco (2 Days), Hawaii - Big Island (4 days), Maui (6 days), Las Vegas (3 days), New York (5 days).

Hawaii (Big Island ...not a whole lot to do...we stayed away from the popular destinations and found it very quiet - although we were in Hawaii we were away from the expensive resorts and able to experience the real Hawaii)

Maui - same as above although we stayed in Lahaina (which is the most popular place its not a hub of activity ...once the sun sets (which were fantastic) ....then its pretty much time for bed.

I would highly recommend Hawaii/Maui as a honeymoon - if you want a rest and relaxation honeymoon ...I personally want an adventure honeymoon - but will discuss that with my GF

gotta run .. will try complete this post later

oh a car is a must in my opinion to view the islands on your own time at your own pace.

Spent a week in Hawaii as part of a honeymoon a couple of years ago. We had initially gone to Vegas for a few days, then Hawaii for a week then back to canada/US for a couple more weeks.
Hawaii is what you make it. I suppose it can be relaxing if you want it to be relaxing.
We booked the whole trip through Tour America, who I have to say were fantastic. Everywhere we stayed was brilliant.
We stayed here while in Hawaii http://www.outrigger.com/hotels-resorts/hawaiian-islands/oahu-waikiki/outrigger-waikiki-on-the-beach
Great hotel, right on the beach. It is a touristy area but we didnt mind.
We did a lot of sightseeing while there and a lot of activiities. Off the top of my head we, surfed, did some diving, took a few boat/submarine trips, seen pearl harbour and rented a car for a day. I really really enjoyed it being honest (we had plenty time for relaxing on other phases of the honeymoon)
The weather was spot on, beaches were as they are portrayed to be, lots to do, people were generally very friendly.
We ate a lot in the cheesecake factory, not good for the calories but epic food and deserts.

Loved the chilled out atmosphere with people not too rushed and got treated well in the hotel as in most of the US type hotels customer service is paramount.

    I would recommend it.

I didnt see many if any All inclusive's, that's not to say there arent any but i didnt see them. I found Hawaii expensive compared to the rest of the US and compared to here but i had sort of expected it. With regards the islands it depends on personal taste.

Bear in mind Hawaii is an island a 6 hours flight from the mainland its going to be more expensive.look at costs between Ireland and the UK
